Yet Another Free Online Translator

Hi all,

I am working in the field of translation (mainly localization of websites) and of course I am using the Internet a lot for helping me out on technical terms translations. Sometimes feeling like a dog chasing his tail.

One of my all-time favorite is the Babylon translation software, as it offers some 75 languages in one tool. Finally Babylon.com (in the good old days their were freeware) realized what the Internet is all about: offering free access to information.

Now they set up a free online translation service which I can recommend to anybody needing translations (and I guess that's almost everybody these days). They give reliable translations in some 800 language pairs.

For German speakers like me, there is a special German service set up under: Online Übersetzer. Schaut mal rein, ist wirklich gut strukturiert.

I believe that they are about to establish several more language interfaces, e.g. Italian: Traduzione gratuita online, but those are right now still in Beta versions.

if only there is one service which could offer the widest and most reliable machine translation...

babylon is a nice addition however, to the more prominent onlinee translation services of the big giants Yahoo (http://babelfish.yahoo.com) and Google (http://translate.google.com). there are some languages from their dropdown menu which i didn't find in the other two, and can complement those already offered by yahoo and google. all in all, they could complement each other, especially if you're missing the language you need to translate from one to another of your own choosing.

i like google translator for the simple reason that it offers translation for our language (Filipino/Tagalog) to other languages (not that i need translating for my native tongue, but i'm proud it's included there. ).

I use babelfish quite a bit but I find it often translates things far too literally, so word choice is quite important when using these applications.
