I'd like to ask before I cast my vote: are you referring to football as in soccer (for United States folks) or football as in NFL (National Football League) where a sport in style of rugby with protective gears?
It's just that this forum is open to all nations and I can anticipate some confusion to the word "football" with certain nationalities.

He's referring to soccer, since he said in his post that it is popular not only in his country, but all countries. And footnall is only popular really in the U.s.a . Soccer is the best sport because every country plays it. No matter what ethnicity you are, you most liekly no how to play soccer!

NFL-type football is not that popular worldwide and more people watch FIFA type football than rugby. I'm guessing you're referring to "soccer", JackTheRipper. Yeah, I'd have to say that the beautiful game is indeed king of sports. If a billion people watch it and the largest sports contract to date was made in that sport (Beckham contract) I'd say it's well qualified for the title.
The question in my country (Australia) in regard to football is.. which type of football is popular. Down here you got Australian Rules football, Rugby union, Rugby League (League & Union are 2 completely different codes) & Soccer. Soccer has been on the rise lately considering the Socceroos appearance at the world cup, but considering the amount of bandwagon supporters around the place, with them off the soccer bandwagon, there are still an amount of casual sport fans (those that follow any code), followed by "new" soccer fans and those long term hard-core soccer fans.
But yeah, out here.. its either Australian Rules football (by far the most popular spectator sport, and junior sport.. followed by the 2 rugby codes).
I definitely would have to disagree that football (soccer in my country) is the king of all sports. It is a bit slow and a lot of controling the ball rather than taking lots of chances. I prefer hockey over soccer any day. Much more entertaining with all the hitting, fighting, break aways, etc. Plus, there is a good amount of control in it like soccer but much more shooting and oppertunity for scoring.
Popular, yes but not king of sports. Maybe they should add a two-point shot, a distance shot just like a three-point shot in basketball. It will change a little bit in their defense and offense. It will add some excitement and hope for a team that is lagging a goal in that game.
Yes, football(soccer) is the king of all sports. It is played all over the world. In Europe, soccer is so popular.Germany, Italy,England,France,Netherland,Spain..... very good at playing soccer. And there are excellent soccer leagues run very well in these countries. European Champions' League is held every year, champions of Eurpean countries' leagues play together to find who is the best one club of this year. In south America, Brasil and Argentina are also very very stong at playing soccer, they have many huge stars in history. In Africa and Asia, football is also popular, many countries have their own football leagues. The World Cup, now is one of the most popular sports events. It makes fans crazy every four years~~ I think no other sports are more popular than football.
well in my country, football (soccer) is the king of sports.. this sport has the most fans over the country.. almost every boy talks about soccer, whether it's a league game, a friendly, international, etc.. in the world i think it's the same.. you can see it on huge occasion like the world cup or even the smaller one like euro.. billions of people turn their attention to the event..
Definitely! Football rules, it is awesome. I have played it for many years since I was a little squirl, it is social, fun and in my opinion everyone can play it. (Not professional but with your friends at the field.) In Norway it is big, the biggest sport of them all. Handball is great too, they get more goals so I love that too. Football is the queen of all sports.

To some extent I support your statement that it is the king of the sports. It is very famous and popular in our country too. But now a days cricket is taking its place in popularity. But still now it needs a huge amount of strong stamina in comparision to other sports in that context it is really the king.
Sounds like a portion of the US's population concerning American football or basketball.
The beautiful game is certainly the most popular sport in the world. Much of that may well be it's ease of play, all you need is a ball and nothing else. I can not see how anyone finds Football/Soccer boring, baseball yeah football, no way. The exciting thing in football is that you never know when some one is going to break away for a shot or a midfielder will execute a perfect tackle or any number of other things may occur. In American football all the action is broken up. In truth part of the strategy in American football often includes spending as much time as possible between plays to run the clock down. So the strategy is to not play the game while the clock is running, not exactly awe inspiring. There are many times in American football as well when what happens next is a given. If its fourth down and ten yards to go it will be a punt or a field goal attempt.
Football is less popular in the US (my location actually) for a few reasons I think. One of those is that I think we Americans are less patient over all. We understand scoring and like that. Even non Football/soccer fans can appreciate a nice highlight reel. (Being a Manchester United fan I get plenty of highlights as well with Renaldo and Rooney ) Aslo I think Most Americans Do not understand football enough to appreciate it. This is mostly due to the sorry state of child leagues in the U.S. Far too many 'coaches' in child leagues have never really played seriously themselves and have little to no grasp of the games stratagies.
Lastly you have to caqll international football the king of sports simply becasue it is the most profitable sport. The English Premiereship makes more money than the NFL. I do not know the numbers but I am fairly certain that the Glazers whio own both the NFL's TampaBay Buccaneers and Manchester United make more money from the United.
I do not think football is the best sport at all! Why, you may ask, alright..
a) Its a sissy sport. You have guys like Ronaldo falling and diving everytime for no clear reason. The next thing the team gets a penalty and they win!
the players lack manners and sportsmanship Everytime, the players oppose the referee and they ridicule the guy before everyone! if you want to look at sports that have professionals look at american football and rugby. The guys can surely murder the ref but the have their emotions in check every time and the ref is rarely if ever opposed.
c) Its not a fair sport The lack of football to embrace technology makes it an ancient and boring dirty game. How many times does someone score when they were offside?? In cricket and rugby, these things are referred to an official who can replay and let justice prevail.
Being popular does not make it the ultimate sport. It means its just not classy
Football is definitely the King of Sports at present but it has a strong competition with cricket specially after the success of Indian Premier League. IPL has the potential to outrun football and make cricket number one in this race.
You are absolutely correct Cricket is a very popular as well. I will confess my ignorance here though. Even being a bit of an anglophile I do not understand cricket.
Down in the subcontinent, soccer is limited mainly to the metropolitan cities and maybe a few other cities in particular. The local leagues are not so popular but the leagues in europe especially the EPL and the european champions league is followed with zeal in the major cities.
Football(american) however is almost non -exsitent here - they do not broadcast the playoffs - Can you imagine that????
In fact I am most worried every year about missing the all start games of the nba as well....
Cricket dominates the subcontinent. It is played at every nook and corner and followed by a vast majority of the population. It is almost a religion. If you feel the english and brazilians are passionate about soccer you should come for a one-day or 20-20 game in here. Soccer though dominant in some parts is surely not a king or queen of sports..Just my opinion - I play soccer myself and am quite handy so I do not want any soccer fans jumping at me for refuting the claim.
I know good football /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0"

there any online football club admistions , i need a good website for that ....
Many times if you look over history there have been controversial incidents within football, mainly
goals, should football, FIFA, UEFA, or the FA try and bring in new forms of technology to get these
key incidents right? The first few that bounce off the top of my head are: - Hurst vs Germany (

Astle vs Leeds; 1971 Maradonna vs England; 1986. Leeds vs Manchester United; 2002 Pompy earlier last

So i have ( for an unknown reason ) been reading and watching quite a bit of American Football
related Fiction ( Bleachers and Playing for Pizza by John Grisham and Friday Night Lights, Remember
the Titans and Varsity Blues mainly )and a few questions have popped up: 1: What does being an All
American mean? 2: When Teams win a State title, doe they then go on to a competition between the
other State title winners to find the best in the country? 3: why are the plays so scripted, can
they not make it up on the fly? 4: In "Varsity Blues" the QB gets the clock to stop b....
Hello all, I am going to try out for school football this year! Tomorrow morning is Early Bird
Conditioning, and I am debating whether-or-not to go. It is from 6:10 AM to 7:05 PM (before
school).I like the early in the year part, but not the early in the day part. Should I go to this or
just go and do the regular conditioning in? I always like the extra practice, but I can't get up
early. What do you think I should do?....

Who is your favorite college football team & why? My favorite college football team has to be the
West Virginia Mountaineers. Mostly because i'm from West Virginia & I grew up watching them.
Whenever they are playing I always have this wierd adrenaline from watching them. No other sports
team ever gives me that kind of feeling, if any team comes close to doing that to me it would have
to be the Cincinnati Reds. I guess it might just be because thats the only team I love to watch &
can't miss a game. I also love going to the West Virginia Mountaineers football g....

Ok, so I want to know everyone's viewpoints on martial arts... What do you think? Is it a sport?
Is it an art? Is it a thug's game?? Let me know what you think please.. Ok so personally, I
don't see how it could possibly be a thug's game, in all the time of training in both Karate
and Judo I've never seen an essance of anything that we see in the papers being preformed by
groups of youths (just to say I'm not targetting teens, I'm a teen myself.. but you know the

ok i have some questions about these sports that re considered sports.. for example,
NASCAR/MOTORCROSS..are these really sports? you're not doing anyhing except sitting and driving
.. ur not wasting any energy so i really don't think its a sport. However, it's more of a
strategic game, because it involves more thinking than actually doing, only thing you do is steer a
wheel and press gas. In Football/ you see pople 30 / 400 punds on the field? are they really
athletic? all they have to do is stand there and don't et anybody come through. Give me some SU....
Just wondering the sports that you played in the past and present, and how you went/details in them.
Basketball - Point Guard or Forward. Played it in my late high school years (1998-2002) Preferred
playing Forward and have a few Invidual Player Achievements and Team trophies from those years.
Cricket - Fast medium/No 8 bat. May have only played this for only 2 years at competitive level,
didnt have the temperament or commitment to continue playing. I was told and I'll agree that
I'm a bit of a slogger with the bat at times, thus batting at 8. Soccer - Playe....
First off, let's talk about muscle. You can have the biggest arms the world has seen and you can
be a big wimp when it comes to tackling someone. Why? How many people tackle using just there arms?
Not too many, and if they do, they aren't going to have too many tackles that way. The secret
is: the stronger your lower body (legs, stomach, etc.) to more harder that you will hit people when
you are tackling them. Watch some football games, and you will see that most people on defense are
moving their legs when they are tackling someone. That's because you have m....
How many high school football fans do we have in here? If you ask me there is nothing like it in the
world, especially if you played it growing up. I currently play on a high school football team and
it has been one of the best experiences. Dont get me wrong, its a lot of hard work. But in the end
it is all worth it. My team, Jemison Panthers (Alabama) is a 4a school, which is a good size school
but not too big. We went 7-4 this year, and lost in the first round of the playoffs. What do you
guys like about high school football?....
