It really all depends on the type of site you are trying to create. In some instances, it can be fairly easy to design a website. Provided you have the necessary tools at hand; notepad, maybe a program like dreamweaver ect. Now-a-days, there are some many different types of software that can help you achieve a beautiful web page with little or no help from you. Take that into consideration

Well it depends on what type of site do your want. It also depends on how much effort do you want to put in it. If your will like to make a complex site you need to gets some scripts. If you would like to build a simple website i really recommend using an online web builder. scripts.com is a really good place to find some scripts. It also depends on how much are your ready to invest

I recommend you to download Macromedia Dreamweaver and learn as you design your own site! It's very easy to make a site with it and it comes with a lot of handy tutorials. If you get stuck you can always Google it... Also you may want to download a ftp client.

The first step is to decide CMS or static, and then flat files or database....And what type of database.

For beginning I would start with Dreamweaver and do flat files. It's all WYSIWYG(What you see is what you get) so it's very easy to use and has almost all of the features you would need when coding your own HTML. It even has some JS(Javascript) built in as well.

Also, I have a book called "The complete idiot's guide to website creation" that gives a very easy to follow understanding of HTML. I used it to learn the language in under a week. And it goes through everything from frames to creating submission screens and stuff.

Dear friend it entirely depends on your knowledge and command on web languages and I think as a beginer you should try some free templates and edit them as per your needs. You can also learn by going through them codes etc of the free templates and knowing the process how they came with the design so best of luck for your learning.

Why don't you learn a Cms like drupal or Joomla or Wordpress, or Blogger..it is much easier to understand the basics. I prefer to modify wordpress, and create what I like. I suggest you to get some books and start learning a programming language.

It can actualy be very easy, when i was 11 i picked up HTML in 5 days, and followed with javascript in about three months.

I learnt HTML quickly. Use a HTML editor like Dreamweaver, it'll make things alot more simple as you can edit the code and see what you're doing straight away wheras before you'd have to keep refreshing to see if you're having the right effect. After just 2 years I've learnt HTML, Javascript, CSS and PHP. Maybe more... So if you can just get you're head around the first parts (first is always hardest) then you'll start flowing with HTML and all sorts of other languages!

Above, Deji, I (Sky/Kel) also know a little C++. Learning it anyway.

The easiest way to build a real web site for free with free hosting not needing any programming/specialised knowledge, just drag and drop - go to these free web sites - www.weebly.com www.blinkweb.com www.wordpress.com www.squidoo.com awesome and all free and loved by google
They have a lot of amazing features that would take a lot of knowledge of dreamweaver or html to do normally and it's all free!

I understand your situation - I found it difficult too to create a proper website easily. Well nothing is really easy in the computer world and it can be a bit if you don't adapt yourselves to this bizarre world!

The problem is, there are a lot of things to be learnt to create different kinds of websites. I'm sure some of the replies above might seem confusing to you, with strange names!

Well it all seems a bit difficult at first. But I suggest you take the time to start learning all these languages from the start instead of depending on a ready-made solution. Creating everything on your own gives you greater control over the content. This is useful in many situations so it is recommended to start learning!
