I'm also finished with this topic, as I got my proof too, I said I believe, but Lyon thinks that I didn't read the topic, I guess he didn't read my posts in this thread, just several sentences of it, anyway.

I said that .kgb does not work for every file type as you say, I said it depends and on some files, but it's really amazing archiving, I always said that !!! I think you're crazy Lyon2 or just very young.

I also and same rpgsearcherz gave you some examples for file types which can't become 64 kb, because they are already compressed and I gave some examples with different archivers like .7z which hadn't big difference in compressing ratio, .kgb is very useful and amazing for some files and especially for large files and loads of files as compressing is just making less bits from lots of bits, by some algorithm.. but not for any extension, thats all I'm pointing out. End of discussion.

Did you download the 64 KB file and then extract it to see the files it has? It seems not, so your just talk, that is nothing what you just wrote, it only proves that you did not even download the file and try to extract it has rpgsearcherz did, at leats he knows that it would take him hours to extract, and trusting that in fact is a game, it has heavy graphic files at least, but it also has audio files, and much more, which you said it can not be compressed more.

It seems that this topic, for you, is just about making your point, but for me is to fight for what i know is real, not bad advertizing, i am not earning any money with this topic, so why would i persist with this, only one reason, i am correct, and i am not going to let people come here and say otherwise, not without solid proof, and you can not give it to me can you, no, just bla bla bla, i uploaded files to prove, you did nothing besides what you said you did, that does not prove it all, that 64 KB file proves that i am write, at least in many debates we had the 3 of us.

Ok, I left my computer to decompress that GTA.rar file, I decompressed the GTASA.kgb which is 64 KB, it took me ~4h, but I wasn't at home to look at it, it gave me more rar files and some files, all together in size of 670 MB, cool from 64 KB I got 670 MB, RAR files did not open to me, but I don't care, I have compressed those files again with tar.bz2, .7z, .zip and tar.gz using 7 zip file manager and to .rar with WinRar and here are my results:

Decompressed .kgb 64 KB file to 670 MB of files..

Compressed 670 MB of files to .tar.bz2 using 7zip file manager and got .tar.bz2 file 86 KB [It took me 45 seconds to compress it]

Compressed 670 MB files to .7z using 7zip file manager and got a .7z fle in size of 166 KB [Only 100 KB larger than .kgb and it took me 1 minute to compress those 670 MB]

Compressed 670 MB of files to .rar using Winrar and got .rar file 486 KB [Strange as there already were big RAR files inside which didn't extract for me]

Compressed 670 MB of files to .zip using 7zip file manager and got .zip file 892 KB [It took me 2 minutes, as I was using Ultra method on Normal method it took me 48 seconds and gave the same size]

Compressed 670 MB of files to .tar.gz using 7zip file manager and got .tar.gz file 891 KB [It took me 1 minute and 15 seconds to compress]


So the same working file which was 64 KB other archivers are quite close to it, even though .kgb seems to be the best. But I also would call those files to be highly compressed files as all the archivers from 670 MB made less than 1 MB file. Oh, and it was so much faster, so on future computers it would also be faster to use bz2 ;]

Oh, by the way, why I couldn't make that game GTASA.kgb work after extracting it? it gave RAR files which couldn't open nor extract, a setup.exe file which closed unexpectedly and autorun.exe which didn't do anything as it's not a valid win32 application, it was a "working" game?

Some say that it does work and some say that the file does not work, that it gives some errors, but all over the internet that file is very popular, so you will find lots of links to it if you know how, and there people give replies from the 2 sides, i have the game on my pc and i played with it, so in that issue, i will not go into more detail, i am sure you can find help with your problem on the internet, in games websites.

It also took me 4 hours, not exactly of course, but if you want more examples that kgb really compressed better then the others, just say the word, i can even upload a few, but of course, the time for extraction is the problem.

One more thing, this program was made to resolve bandwidth costs issues, to reduce them, and in time, the extraction time will be fare less as you could perhaps imagine.

That is really remarkable. It probabaly does take a longer time to extract though being it has to open up back to the original size. This is still a great post, thanks a lot :]

Only very uncompressed file can be compressed effectively such as texts. You may archive a bunch of files and get some result but it very much depends on how solid the files already are.


I don't think the KGB Archiver is very practical, it only allows .kgb and .zip extensions. Alternatively, WinRAR supports quite a lot of archive types and performs multiple functions effectively.

This is very true. BUT BEWARE requires alot of grunt to compress, and may take alot of time. And user who want to access ur archives well they may have to wait hours and hours to uncompress the file. Awesome compression but really only practical for faster computers.

Though this doesn't work on Macs, I am archiving a 2GB folder using .sit. I can tell you (by using a 260kb document going into a 40kb document) that this works very well, though I think it is only for Mac.
