Yes, for video and music files it just don't compress much. But i'm trying now to change the mp3 and avi to exe too see if the program can compress like compressed in the 2MB file. I'll report when i'm done.

Is that really true? Ok, I'll try to download it. Even if it's true, this file (archiver) must be in use when someone want to open the archive right? Is it okay for me to redistribute then?

But i'm still trying this program with different file types, the problem is that compresses more, but it takes much more pc resources then the other compressors.

I'm trying now with 2GB of memory with a P4 with 2.6GH processor, let's see the results soon.

Inspiron, and to all the others, now i know what has been the problem!

The problem is that you need, at least, a pc with a 3.0 processor, 2 Gb of ram, to be able to compress 500mb to 2 or 5 MB (this value will varie depending on your processor speed and ram available).

I have movies of 700 mb compressed into 50 MB with the kgb compressor to prove, at least to prove to myself, so i can not share the links here, but now i know why i couldn't compress a lot, i don't have a 3.0 processor, only a 2.6 cpu, and i was working with more programs running, so i couldn't expect good results.

If you have this requirements to be able to compress highly, this program truly works, i know now for sure.

winace is one of the tools i like apart from the standard tools used..

For multimedia files, i guess it is better compressing the file using a codec ... Only files like text files and few application filesbenifit major ,while using the compression tools like winzip ,winrar etc..,

I was very sceptic about this... but reading thee whole post I donīt know. Itīs possible, I mean... compression must advance in the near future, but this seems too much repently. I wish that one day videos and music could be shared quickly within seconds with your friends. But not today I guess... if this kgb format really works, I suppose there must be new researches to reach more perfection and making it to work without awesome processors. It can be a revolution indeed. I hope itīs open source so anybody can improve it.

Of course it is possible Sprnknwn, i know for sure, i have 3 videos, which have video and audio already compressed to the maximum, compressed again with kgb archiver, turning 350 MB files into 20 MB files.

The problem is that most of people that own a computer, doesn't have a 3.0 or 3.2 cpu and 2 GB of RAM to spend 1 or 2 hours compressing a 700MB or a 1G file, most of people have lower speed cpu's and only 256MB od ram, 512MB of RAM maximum.

In order to the KGB Archiver program algorithms to work properly in order to compress highly, to compress to the maximum, it needs that fastest cpu and Gigabytes of memory to support the cpu speed and the proper functions of the algorithms of the program, i know, it is a bit complicated, but it's the most simples answer i can come up for the moment, sorry.

It is not open source because they do not share the program source code, and it is obvious why they do not, their program has a new, inovative and original algorithms, so i understand their judgement.

But, the program is freeware, which means that some day it can become open source or, shareware, for sale.

I know it works but it requires very high cpu power and memory to zip it and that level of compresion is only acheived if u select its top level compresion,but it need ram and time which is not affordable it simply takes 1-2 hours to compress <10 mb file,but its works surely as it works on probability it takes high cpu power and ram ,time.but i think its better to use winuha which provides more higher compresion taht 7z,winrar at a quite affordable speed
