It's like the microsoft office, but free.
You can build draws, presentations, excel programs, word documents, build websites, etc... .

Now, to build pdf files, it's very easy, after you install the openoffice (60/70 mb), you open the program and then click to create a word document or text document, after creating, you just have to click the save as pdf file, and that's it.

Another note is that you don't really need the micosoft office because openoffice is much more better in many diferent ways AND IT'S FREEWARE, can you beleave it!?.

Just try the openoffice and you'll see that i'm right, i use it for 5 months and i'm very happy with it.

Does anyone know if any of the free programs for making PDFs allow you to change your documents security settings. Not allowing editing, printing, ect.

I use Adobe Distiller, it looks like you use printing in windows. Ihave had zero problems with it and it can be used in critical proffesional use, where you must print into a file. Nice program I must say.

Unfortunately for us Adobe Distiller is not free. Also if you are to pay you should get Acrobat Professional if you want to spend money anyway. I don't have either program but Acrobat looks better.

I'll put in another vote for the OpenOffice.org suite. That package beats out MS Office in many respects. It has a PDF creation button as well.

Other PDF creation programs I recommend are: Paperless Printer and Primo PDF.

Guys, with Pdfcreator it's very very easy to build pdf files:

After you install the tool, you just have to open a txt file, doc, well any file almost and then you just have to click the button "print" and choose the printer named pdfcreator and that's it!

The pdf file will appear in the directory you have specified in the options of the program.

Also with openoffice it's more easy and much better then the ms office.

wariorpk, here is your answer, with PdfCreator you can build pdf files out of any program that is able to print, plus, you can open the program and configure the options/settings, like for example, the level of security (128 bits or 42 if i am not mistake), plus you can prevent people from copy, edit, print, and so much more security stuff if you want to use it.

And, you can also create pdf files with password, i mean, you insert the user and admin password in the settings of the program, and then you need to insert one of those passwords to open the pdf file, it's pretty cool and usefull if you need that feature.

Shigajet is right: Why use PDF creator when Openoffice can export to PDF, open MS Word files, and more?

I haven't heard of OpenOffice until I read the previous posts. Based on the positive feedback, I'll be sure to check it out. At the same time though, I've never had any problems with MS Office and why fix something if it isn't broken right? Nonetheless, I'll give 'change' a chance *keeps fingers crossed*

In the past, I've used PrimoPDF to create my pdf documents. Although I've never tweaked around to see if various security features can be enabled, I've never had any problems with it. Simple and straightforward program.

Props to free software.
