I can't believe it, at last, finally, Blender 2.40 is out.After some 7 monyhs of contiguous development and struggking, it's out and it has plenty of new and exciting features , becoming more and more like high-end 3d apps like maya or xsi. Time to replace 2.40-alpha 2 on my system. Actually, if your going to be doing game graphics, Blender might be the better choice since that was it's orginal purpose: to create video games for the NEO GEO system.
Maya is the current trend sitter for character animation. Architecture firms and many game developers still use 3D Studio Max and a lot of TV and video people use Lightwave for their work.
I promised my friend that I'd shamelessly plug his Blender Xgrid project at http://macminigrid.astahost.com/ . I think his goal is to create a distrubted computing system using Apple's Xgrid. Although he's waiting for enough people to step foreward before spending like $5k on the Xserve. I think he plans to start with a Mac Mini he already uses at home as a rendering agent and install OS 10.4 server and use it as a full time grid controller if he can't find someone with OS 10.4 Server and a PowerMac willing to host the project for him.
I think blender is cool. I really don't know much about it and really suck at rendering, but there are some people that can do amazing work. I just down load the star trek ships and animate them going in straight paths and blowing up and stuff just to show how big of a nerd I really am.

Because of my hard drive's small capacity, I didn't want to install the 300+mb office suite
by Microsoft. I've tried OpenOffice but it was still too big. Right now I only have AbiWord to
