Please sign in to read or send mail. Email, :, @30gigs.com ... Within the next several weeks, 30Gigs.com will be installing some new features to the new The Internets are buzzing about this free email service 30Gigs.co1m, that plans to give people 30 gigabytes of email storage, aka 15 times what Google offers with its Gmail service. The new service shows how commoditized the hardware, especially storage has become. Still, as may grandfather used to say, nothing in life is free. Not even email. I urge readers to use caution when signing up for this service. Couple of things to make you pause before you sign-up. Neowin users are pointing them out2.
In addition, if you do a whois3 look-up on their domain name, you find it was registered only on September 21, 2005. Makes you wonder how robust this service is going to be, given is brief life thus far. (Maybe I am reaching…!) I did a quick look-up of the “physical address” and the company is based in a “corporate housing complex”4 in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Still, the idea of free 30 gigs of storage, is quite tempting… imagine what you could do with it! main goal is to increase the space even further, to 50 gigs, or maybe 100 as time goes on. 30Gigs.com is still in a very heavy beta, and if you are a member, please help 30gigs to make it the best mail server there is. it will be offering a section for personal file storage (up to 30 gigs) and a GD2 signature maker to keep your email safe from spam robots. It also offer a unique feature, which allows you to send a email from any address you want. This is very useful if you have multiple accounts linked to your 30Gigs.com account.” 30Gigs.com started off with the idea of creating a "All in one" site for the webmaster and avid computer users. Combining personal file storage, GD2 signatures and anonymous email all in one service, which would be free. Our main goal is to increase our space even further, to 50 gigs, or maybe 100 as time goes on. 30Gigs.com is still in a very heavy beta, and if you are a member, please help us to make it the best mail server there is. Like the many other big email topics that have been made the only thing useful on email accounts this big is to store files nothing more Of course why waste all that money on huge storage servers when people can just buy a $60-80 external hard drive that has 80-100gigs on and put everything thing there?
I'm not even sure if it's good for file storing with an email service that offers huge space, such as this.
The reason is that most email services limits how much of attachment you can send. Currently Yahoo! is 10mb. I have not tested Gmail but I'm sure it's either 5 or 10mb per attachment.
It's enough if I wanted to send a document. But a document cannot even fill the current 1 or 2GB provided space. I have been sending small files that are under 5~7mb to myself as an attachment to keep those program files handy wherever I go--it's like a file hosting service. And even at the maximum attachment usage of 10mb, it will take several uploads to use the 2GB space.
So what's good about having the 30GB space when the attachment is still limited? I think 30GB is just the waste of the technology given. Now if 30GB email service says the attachment can be up to 100 or 500mb... well then we have something here...
You seem to be a newbie in Trap17 who hasn't read the rules and regulation of this forum and also does not know that there is a search option available. Before starting a topic you should check whether any similar topic is already available or not.
For your information there is already a topic running here.
I'm sure 2GB is well over enough for me, especially when the attachment size limit is only 20mb or 10mb... If the attachment size limit was unlimited then I would probably consider it. And as for 30gigs.com I already have an account... but I've never used it before. Personally I don't think that the company can be trusted to oversell. What happens if suddenly they shut down? Then we lose all our emails, and the problem with that is that since they're not a large company, we risk having that happen, especially if they claim to offer 30gigs. Even their invitation system is cracked by many php programmers.... I don't trust this company to keep my email or even password, secure...
Even 1gb seems enough for me, and the most I get in regard to attachment is at least 5mb (usually funnies or powerpoint presentations) being passed around by mates and so forth.
Thats a lot of mail capacity in one in box i heard of 1 gb but never 30 in one simple mail box . I haven't even used 1 megabyte of my old mail let alone 30 gb its surprising some one would even release 30 gb in an in box i believe that that space could be used for much more or better things such as web hosting or maybe image hosting its just unlikely for someone to use 30 gb in a mail but who am I to speak Who ever signs up I wish them luck spending 30 gb on a mail server
I'd be alot more concern about the actual privacy of the files I'd be storing in the email. Heck, I'd trust Google with their gmail WAY before I'd trust these guys.
Does anyone know how to make this work as an FTP server or something similar? I'd really like to be able to actually use this space from something useful.
I remember this service it is by some Patrick Thona who used to offer free webhosting services by the name Roxr.com. Then latter it shut down as it did not have the willingness to continue. But these guys had already started this email service and used to give registration by the way of invites the same way followed by google mail service GMail. But there is a catch and the email is not 30 GB is rather a mere 600 Megabytes(MB). This is mentioned in the Terms of service if you read. Also they dont give POP3 services, SMTP and all. Their inbox is so boring and is horrible in looking. There will be a banner in the right. This is in no comparison with GMails Super Fast Javascripting.
Why are you trying these. When there are already so much of free ftp servers are available. And I personally think it is not possible to change it to ftp server. In emails one needs to login by userid and password and any message which is in the inbox can't be shared with others via links. So it is not possible.
There aren't many free FTP servers that you can use without restrictions you know. It would be nice if I could access this space from a FTP client and upload my stuff there instead of slow services like rapidshare.
Anyone remember when they had 2mb of storage? I do, ah, those were the days
Ahh good times, good times. Back in the day, where bandwidth was unlimited, and you could have unlimited accounts on any hosting service to suit your storage needs...
By the way, are you the same juice from "that site (WLTG)"

Yahoo! Mail is offering a new mail in an interface similar to that of GMail. It looks like an
EMail Client and allows Drag and Drop. The interface loads quickly and is sleek. But Yahoo could
have done away with those ads in the page. This service is in Beta so more features are yet to come.
This service is available only for the Members of Yahoo in UK, Ireland, Germany and France.

QUOTE Yahoo Inc. on Thursday launched in beta a photo e-mail service that allows consumers to
send as many as 300 photos taken from their computers or the web. Also on Thursday, the Sunnyvale,
