They probably do have it in development but don't have any public services that use it. The only use right now that I can think of for so much bandwidth would probably be massive datacenters. I'm assuming it costs a fortune to lay lines and would be much more expensive than even the current high end connections. The typical user would have no use for most of it would end up being a waste of money if anyone could afford it.

I agree with arigato. Its possible but whats use of it i you can comunicate only in small area. And btw what vould be cost developing that kind of network and also servers vould be high-end priced. In the end whats point in all that when web is restricted by certain broadband

this is all wrong. broadband is almost 30 gigs in america. BROADBAND. the definition here is that broadband is BROAD because it serves many people. most of you using broadband are sharing a BIG connection...with a dozen or 2 other houses. they limit each house to a certain ammount/fraction. ever wonder why broadband TOS's have a restriction on hosting servers at home? It's because you'd be hogging the fat line (broadband) all to yourself.

Could check with guinessworld records to see what the fastest internet transfer there is. QUOTE 838.86 gigabytes of data over a distance of 16,343 km (10,155 miles) in 1,588 seconds. The resulting record value of 69,073 terabit metres-per-second
Im kinda guessing that, that indeed is faster than 30gb connection? lol

Why not? As soon as gigabit LAN is formed, gigabit internet service can come true. But that probably would take some time later for such service to exist. Currently the maximum broadband speed that I heard of is 25Mbps. Any faster elsewhere does anyone knows?

It could be just used by companies and not the public, like Arigato said. Or it could be what amhso said about the 30gigs being shared and not dedicated to each person. Although I wouldn't be surprised if research centres with loads of supercomputers needed a 30gig line to pass information around. I think one of the worlds powerful supercomputers is in Japan, simulating Earth's climate or something along those lines. All that information being produced and recorded must need a nice fat line to pass through, although I guess 30gigs is a bit excessive.

I think in places such as Hong Kong, you can get 80Mbps.

There are "BROADBAND" Speed toping out at over 13 GigaBits... and that isn't even scratching the surface of some of the ultra highspeed connections between major universities. Caltech alone shatterd the long running internet speed record of 23.2 GigaBits, and set the bar @ 101GigaBits. Even a true Dedicated T-3/OC3 line will run you upwards of 12,000 dollats per MONTH . BTW, gigabit ethernet has been out almost as long as the CAT5e(ethernet) standard. Its just that people are too cheap and sont want to pay alot of money to have the right equipment and network cables. NOw however almost every buisness desktop has GigaBit ethernet, its just that a normal person has to go to a computer specialty store or buisness wholesale stroe to get true gigabit ethernet (CAT5e). However, for the avid DIY'er, for almost pennies on the doller you can buy like 100 ft. reels of gigabit ethernet cable from electrical suply depos, as well as a tools and end caps that will let you make your own custom length CAT5e cables. THis is a great thing, because it it can cut down on the possibilty for interferance an if you run the cable right people wont trip on them .

Understanding Broadband
are you ready to upgrade ? (1) QUOTE In general, broadband refers to telecommunication in which a wide band of frequencies is
available to transmit information. Because a wide band of frequencies is available, information can
be multiplexed and sent on many different frequencies or channels within the band concurrently,
allowing more information to be transmitted in a given amount of time (much as more lanes on a
highway allow more cars to travel on it at the same time). Related terms are wideband (a synonym),
baseband (a one-channel band), and narrowband (sometimes meaning just wide enough to car....

Broadband In Gas
Carrying internet over gas pipelines (5) I recently read about a company called Nethercomm that is promoting a broadband in gas technology.
Apparently, this company has some patents pending on devices that can be installed in gas pipelines
that go to commercial and residential buildings to provide the "last mile" connection for broadband.
It appears the technology is based on radio frequencies propogated down the gas pipe as a wave
guide. Nethercomm boasts data rates up to 40 Mbps are possible to the home. Anyone know of any
actual implementation/trials of this technology going on presently?....
