157 Of The Best Free Software On The Net - Freeware Software List

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw this e-magazine (PC Magazine) on a website that will remain nameless just because of the nature of this website. Anyway with my wonderful pdf extracting skills I cut the pages down, and if all goes well the links to the original article should still work. So what kind of software are we talking about well I put it like this you might already have them, software covers Operating Systems, Antivirus/Anti-Malware, Firewalls, Security, Finance, Office, Calendar/PIMs, Backup/Sync, App Launchers, Utilities, Downloads, Interface Enhancement, File View/Conversion, Networking, Blogging, RSS Readers, Instant Messaging, Communication, Audio, Video, Graphics, browsers/add-ons, and finally Games/Fun.

Phew! Those are just the categories that this 157 software spread is covering, and not surprising most of them are well known like firefox, Ubuntu, OpenOffice, AVG, Comodo Firewall to just name a few. So enjoy this spread and if you already have all 157 software instealled on several computers then your set for life, and hopefully when I get a chance read it more and install some of these just to see how they run and stuff and go into some more detail about them later on.

Interesting, but it seems alot of the software doesn't seem to be too helpful and alot of redundencies in use, so you wouldn't want all 157; however, it is a nice little database of free software, I definitly did find a few programs i'm checking out.

Agreed, there are many on the list I didn't even know about. Some might be handy and a good option if you don't want to pay for similar products that cost money. I saved this PDF to my computer and will keep it for reference when I have time I may try some out.

I think I already have enough of the recommended softwares on the list. I just need some time to figure them all out and use them.

Good find and I would suggest all of the members scan through the list to see if there is anything they could use in there.

Another good source of Freebies is the Give away of the Day as found in the Freebies sub-forum here on the Trap17.
If you register, they send you an email every day describing the new offer, so you never need to look for the daily special. The information about it is in your Mail every morning. Depending on your timezone, it gives you plenty of time to consider downloading it.

Reading this, I was surprised as to how many of these software I actually already knew about, especially since many of them I already have installed on my computers. (I have everything Saint_Michael mentioned on his post, except for Ubuntu, and I am considering getting that.)

But I don't think it's a very good list - a lot of the Software on it seem outdated or have better alternatives. It's definately a very useful article though - and a good place for computer newbies to start.

That's what we want to hear about. Give examples of package that can replace the ones in the list. Surely non of us would want to use a second class application when there is something better out there.


Why? U dont tell us why u use this site.
I use sites like sourceforge.net getexe.com, brothersoft.com, winaddon.com, softpedia.com etc and I want u to give me a reason to try this one coz I'm always looking for sites to download coolstuff.

I'll make sure by the end of july I'll have used 65% of the softwares here. I know some of them have been overtaken by better things and I want u guys to tell me about them. I really question the criteria used here because there are some softwares I see here that I don't think are all that. eg Of all my friends who have installed Avast 4 noone has ever detected anything significantly threatening. Why we have Maxthon and no Safari under browsers can be debatable because i think Safari is almost as fast as firefox2
