Mail at yahoo has just gotten bigger. I opened my email today to find the the usual space bar missing and instead it said you have unlimited space. Yahoo was teasing us since several days and now it has finally done it. This is however not new. Rediff.com , an Indian website has been offering unlimited space since a few months. I guess this is gonna be the new standard. Wonder what Google is gonna do though. I am guessing one day there would be no more bytes counting on the Gmail webpage but something about us not needing that anymore. Anyway I guess they have realised that lots of people dont use more than 10 to 50 MB of their alloted space and only a very few the world over use much larger mailbox. And with the attachment size just around 10 Mb it is gonna take a long time to fill up their servers. So this should be a brillliant ploy to get new users. For me my Gmail is enough, now that it is offering 20 MB atachments. Wat say you guys????

My e-mail account doesn't really need a bunch of storage space. I don't save many files or e-mails - just a couple of pictures here and there and important e-mails. All told, I would probably be just fine with, oh, 20MB of storage space or so.

But that's part of the reason why Yahoo! Mail can give unlimited space at this point. They can count on users like me to take up just a tiny bit of space. There will of course be people who will use tons and tons of storage space, but Yahoo! is prepared for them...or at least they'd better be if they're offering unlimited space smile.gif

And yeah - this is a good move to attract more users. Will GMail follow suit? Of course. When? I don't know. For all I know, Google started planning for unlimited storage space before Yahoo! did. smile.gif

I hope GMail offers unlimited space, I'd reallly like that. I save every email that I get, unless its spam, and I am currently using 467 MB out of my 2862 MB. I like the 20 MB attachments too.

Well with all the spam we get nowadays 50MB of space doesn't cut it anymore, of course I don't usually store emails either I read and delete and move on. But I only can imaging How much Yahoo will be paying in BW because with it going unlimited now + the spam + the storage + 250 million accounts it could hurt yahoo in the long run. But I guess since your making millions everyday you can afford to do it as such for a great service BEAT THAT GOOGLE!! laugh.gif

I hope GMail offers unlimited space,

I was under the impression that gmail already offers unlimited space, or maybe I'm just mixing everything up. I've always found Yahoo to be a very reliable service, but I got sick of looking at the disgusting images that always appeared when I wanted to check my email. Haven't had that problem yet with gmail, as the ads I've seen so far are limited to text.

Great News!!! Yahoo has joined the race to provide unlimited space. But I prefer Gmail because of showing only text ads and is fast too. Yahoo shows too many ads, its all irritating. Gmail gives 2.5 GB which is virtually unlimited.

Agreed with above post. Who could really ever use over 2.5 gigs of space for emails? GMail's just fine, more space that I could ever use!
