I didn't know where to post this..... this category seemed about as good a fit as there was.
on most webservers (my trap 17 one included), there is a public_html folder and a www folder, anything uploaded into one also gets put in the other. so i am wondering what is the point of both of these folders? can someone tell me why each one exists? |

www is a shortcut to public_html.
So, you are actually working with public_html only and there is only one folder. |

The only reason the have the WWW folder is because people that have used other hosting services might be used to that, and not know what public_html is. Since it's just a shortcut, like Opaque said, it saves space and confusion for the new users.
