Brenda Terzian wrote this song, We Always Can Stand, as a reminder that regardless of the obstacles or terrible events that have occurred or may happen in the history of humankind, that the human spirit can overcome, and there always will be heroes that will triumph over those misgivings. Those heroes are all of us today, and tomorrow’s generation to come. They also include those who have put aside their fame or status, to take a stance against atrocities, like Genocide. People like, George Clooney, who spoke out publicly to the United Nations, to end the Darfur Genocide, which is still taking place. People like Mel Gibson, who in his Passion of the Christ interview with Diane Sawyer, reminded us of the Armenian Genocide. People like Danny Glover, who continuously speaks out against genocides. People like Arnold Schwarzeneggar, who signed the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day declaration. And President Jacques Chirac, who has made it illegal in France to deny that the Armenian Genocide took place. The world thanks and honors these individuals, and the countless others who are role models for us all to care about our fellow humankind, wherever they may be. Together, ‘we always can stand’ up for the rights of all because ‘we are still heroes’.
