I requested an upgrade yesterday, was approved and activated it today. I thought an upgrade cost 30 hosting points. I started with 44+ yesterday when I made my request. Today when I activated my upgrade I find that I only have 7+ hosting points. Did I do something wrong?

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

Mich,
Hopes this will answer your question.

Hosting Questions

The script which processes your upgrade doesn't simply deduct 30 credits. The '30 credits' is the minimum number you must have before the request is made. Upon approval and processing, the script adjusts the number of credits remaining according your credits prior to the process on a sliding scale. If you had 32 before, it might leave you 1 credit. If you had 132, it might leave you with 17. The details are not known except to the script writer and OpaQue, but there is an algorithm in there to determine the number of credits you are left with. This promotes users posting in the Forum and discourages users from building up large credits, receiving Hosting and not returned to post.

They all (first hosting request and upgrade) go to the default hosting credits. Assuming you had more than required, the default credit is 4. However, with 32 credits and upgrade activation, you will be left with 2 credits. The script will not go beyond the default hosting credit and will not award more than what you should have.

BUMMER!!!! So then in actuallity, it can cost you dearly to upgrade. Not just 30 points.

I'm afraid so. But it depends on which point of view. It can cost you dearly if you had 100 credits and upgraded your hosting. But from forum's point of view this system makes sure that every hosting member stays active after hosting approval. A member X can earn 100 credits and still have 70 credits left over after the upgrade, we probably won't see that member X for the next 70 days or so.

Many of us fell for the same trap (no pun intended). But being as it's fairly easy to earn credits, it's no big deal. Mich, just keep posting and you'll soon forget about the small amount of credits you lost. smile.gif

Yeh, I hope so. It is just that a kind soul loaned me points I feel like I wasted them. If I had waited until I could get the default package in the beginning, it would have only costed me the 30 and I wouldn't have lost that much. Now I have used up 50 some points, some of which were donated. BOOO! sad.gif Makes me sad.
