I'm new to this forum and do not know whether this has been discussed or not, so I'll dive right in and start something controversial.

This thread is really about whether gay marriage should be allowed, not whether it is right or not. I think to disagree but still allow something is the ultimate example of tolerance.

So here we go....

If gays were given the right to marry, what impact would it make in the lives of those who were not gay? Close to zero. I don't know all of the gay people in America and I don't plan too, so let them do what they want. I probably will never notice.

But why should I allow this to happen if I disagree with it? If something is morally wrong, it shouldn't be allowed, right? This is not how America or freedom is supposed to work. Adultery, lying, sex before marriage, dishonoring one's parents, etc. are all sins to some people, but yet they are all legal. Just because you disagree with something doesn't mean you should ban it. What if all of the gay people in America wanted to ban straight marriage? Shouldn't they be allowed to by the same logic?

Well that should get everyone started, I'll keep posting.

It should be allowed. We should all have the privelege to get married to the person that we love. By not allowing everyone the option, we are discriminating against those people who can't. Here, on earth or at least where I'm from (Canada), we must follow the equality of our culture or we become unbalanced.

I don't see how ones sexual preference should dictate what you can and can not do. If you love each other, you want to be close, you just want the world to you and your loved one. So why shouldn't that be allowed? I never understood this, I probably never will understand.

Does loving someone of the same sexe (gender) is less valuable or less equal or less important? It's love... no matter what.. It actually angers me that a government takes the right to "dictate" someone's private life (ok I am NOT refering to illegal and criminal stuff .. but homosexuality, bisexuality is not criminal, not illegal - and I am only talking about consentual relationships here).

Not in all situations. Adultery, while not sending you to jail, will see you end up in divorce court with the bigger spoils likely to go to the one who did not commit adultery. Lying in business can sometimes be illegal and is generally referred to as white collar crime.
Anyway, that's just me being picky. As for the original question: I think it should be allowed.

I think this theme is very sensitive, and i can't answer with "yes" or "no".Gay people are same like all the other peoples on the earth, they are smart, they study, they live like us,they are humans like us...they have the right to love their partner and to show this love to others to,I think...
In my country(Serbia and Montenegro),their are rare peoples who likes gay, because I think that our culture is to primitive...sad...

Everybody has the right to love and be loved! smile.gif

I agree with you, kitty. Homosexuals are people as much as heterosexuals are. They reserves the same rights that the rest of the world enjoys and this includes marriage.

Umm...why the hell should we care if gay people get married? If god made us, he must have made the gay people as well. Hmm...this is a very sensitive topic and I will leave it at that. Don't want to get flamed, lol.

This is going to be long. I have gay friends and acquaintances but for some reasons I'm not really in favor of gay marriages. I'm a contemporary Catholic but in a way I am still a bit conservative. I don't mean to offend anyone but sometimes I still cringe at seeing people of different sexes being affectionate with each other in public. I accept that there are gay people and it's not their fault that they are what they are but somehow they have a bit of contribution. Sometimes they (I know a few) tend to encourage their feelings by browsing through websites (often times pornographic) that are into same-sex activities.

I accept same-sex relationships, really I do. But the marriage bit I'm a bit uncomfortable. My idea of marriage is coupled with religion and procreation and not only partnership. I blame it on my country and its conservative ways. I just feel like if two people should get married they should consider what others would feel. Some might say to hell with others' opinions but I think they really count. If these two people want peace then they should stay together but not get married, at least not yet and not in my country, unless they wan't prying eyes to be all over them...

Again, I'm not deliberately trying to offend people...this is just my opinion. Don't hate me. unsure.gif
