I think someone should create a search engine with intelligence. A simple tree linking similar topics in relevant locations.

Every day I look for something new, like the roots on mars that Nasa have not mentioned. I typed it in the search engine and looked for hours, its like those search engines don't work at all. I noticed google gave up on their soap key idea. It was a great idea and now its gone. Boo hoo!

Does anyone know of a good search engine that helps you find exactly what you type?

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

Google also has the Advanced Search page which allows you more control over what and how the search is performed.

http://www.google.ca/advanced_search?hl=en is the one I use, being in Canada, but there should also be one for your Locale.

Just go to Google and select the 'advanced' search feature.

I have tried that too, takes too long and still littered with problems and weird sites! The very thing we need is an organized map of everything. A visual, physical map that leads you to the correct sections by the area their in. (i.e like Uranus is in space and planets section and not heavenly body parts!) I always find porn and nothing but porn when I search for even normal things like paint.

ei, that's the bane with search engines as it picks up anything and everything, and google is VERY efficient for that. but SEARCH via any search engine is a human function, and it needs human input so it will spit out the most relevant results. you simply would just have to input a stricter set of keywords and employ advance search operators (like +keyword or -keyword) -- a more intuitive interface is what jlhaslip has suggested already. google.com has a basic cheatsheet that you can find here: http://www.google.com/help/cheatsheet.html

there are more elaborate cheatsheets you can use in searching via google, and you can download a 2-page outline here:
http://www.feedsforme.com/google/ and if that one does not suit you, just search for any type of "google cheatsheet" and pick one of many which you can understand better.

as a general rule, broad keywords will give you broad results. like in your example, the keyword PAINT is referenced in google results in 141,000,000 pages. that's not going to be very helpful as you can see, so you add other keywords related to your search, like paint house glow-in-the-dark for example, and it narrows it down to 413,000. you can narrow it down some more but you need to be more concise with your keywords, and you'll get better and more precise results. keywords are the key. wink.gif

try http://www.kartoo.com/

this search engine, actually uses other search providers but it provides you the results in categorized manner. It will link results with similar content and a lot more stuff. If you want categorized search results head out to this site.

This has a flash interface as well as a non-flash HTML interface.

Yeah dogpile is a combined search engine, but man I tried kartoo that was GREAT! I like how it spread them out as a tree and then put them under descriptions such as free, fun, games, etc....

What the OP is describing is really vertical search (supposedly the next big thing among all the next big things of that next big thing, web 2.0) http://www.searchenginejournal.com/vertica...h-engines/4274/

I'm a little sceptical, but it makes sense to be a natural progression from traditional search. Time will tell, I guess.
