I'm getting ready to build a new PC soon and I need to know if I can use my DDR266/PC2100 DIMM 256MB ram modules on a Gigabyte K8U ULi Socket 754 ATX Motherboard with a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ CPU. I can't buy any new ram because of the small budget I have (I have a small allowance each week) so if it's not compatible can you please point me in the direction of a mobo that has socket 754 and can run my ram? Your help is greatly appreciated.

According to the motherboard specification, the recommended RAM specification is

QUOTE
The K8U provides 3 DIMM sockets using 184-pin DDR with a total capacity of up to 3GB. You can install DDR 400MHz Memory.

Bottom line: If you can bring down the configuration of the motherboard to accommodate to DDR 266MHz, then yes. If not, you need to purchase new RAMs. Please refer to the owner's manual.

unfortunately, this motherboard you have seems pretty new to be able to support your CPU, which means nowadays mobos use DDR and DDR2 (which stinks) and are uncompatible with DIMM. but, if you have the mobo with you just line up the sockets for your RAM and see if it fits.

It should be able to run a 3000+, that CPU if I remember correctly uses a 333Mhz FSB, your RAM can do 266 fine and should be okay with 333 even though you should be able to run them asynchronously (at different speeds)
