I got lucky - while making sure I knew what I was talking about, I found a page that explains frames AND demonstrates the design I'm thinking about. ^-^

http://www.highdots.com/css-editor/html_tu...ames/frame.html

The page shows what I mean about "mock" frames - using tables (I'm assuming?) to arrange the title and the menu, but scrolls with the rest of the text. I have no idea how else to describe it. ^-^

The first poll is just to see if a trend I've noticed actually exists, or I'm just crazy. ^-^

One question oyu have to ask yourself do you plan to get your site index in search engines like google or yahoo?

If you do then get away from frames as search engines don't bother with frame sites due ot the fact you have links with in links or something like that.

I would avoid frames if at all possible and at any expense. (or iframes)
As pointed out above, they are not searchable by the Bots, therefore, they can't be indexed by them.
Secondly, they can't be properly 'bookmarkrd' by the users, either. Let's say someone is on your site and wants to bookmark a chapter (or (html) page of a novel). When they add the bookmark, they only can get back to the Index page of the site and not the chapter which they left.
Although easier to build, frames have some very serious shortcomings with respect to indexing, bookmarking and ultimately, being able to be found on the Internet.

Avoid frames if you can; a div can do the same thing much cleaner. Put between your HTML tags. The position:fixed is the most important part. Try this instead; mine doesn't work correctly: http://www.456bereastreet.com/lab/cssframes/

Hope that works; test it out!

I also don't like sites with frames, as when I open a link in a new tab (FireFox) it only loads the page, not the frames, so i tend to avoid sites with frames

Dont do iframes..
Just make your boxes expandable..
It will make ur site look alot better imo.
I hate how some sites have fixed sizes..
And i hate it when people using iframes with ugly scroll bars x.x

frames are not web 2.0 ugh the thought of them just gives me the chills you should know that you really should'nt need frames for anything but judging by your avatar you probably like dollz websites. well i have news for you frames are popular with them however pages without them will load faster if you use CSS. and images. if i were you i would say to stay away from flash and frames to too F's. beware!
