Since literature is the main subject of this corner of the forum, why not create a little thread with the delightful fragrance of poetry, just post some quotes of your choice...

This one is from the Latin poet Catullus. First the translation, and then the really beautiful original text.

English:
Let us live, my Lesbia, and let us love,
and let us judge all the rumors of the old men
to be worth just one penny!
The suns are able to fall and rise:
When that brief light has fallen for us,
we must sleep a never ending night.
Give me a thousand kisses, then another hundred,
then another thousand, then a second hundred,
then yet another thousand more, then another hundred.
Then, when we have made many thousands,
we will mix them all up so that we don't know,
and so that no one can be jealous of us when he finds out
how many kisses we have shared.

Latin:
Vivamus mea Lesbia, atque amemus,
rumoresque senum severiorum
omnes unius aestimemus assis!
soles occidere et redire possunt:
nobis cum semel occidit brevis lux,
nox est perpetua una dormienda.
da mi basia mille, deinde centum,
dein mille altera, dein secunda centum,
deinde usque altera mille, deinde centum.
dein, cum milia multa fecerimus,
conturbabimus illa, ne sciamus,
aut ne quis malus inuidere possit,
cum tantum sciat esse basiorum.

I'm not much for poetry, but I really like to read freeform expression. One of my favorite people for this is the lead guitarist/singer of the band- The White Stripes. Here's an entry of his-

Well the days are just spin, spin, spinnin’
Meg was in the hotel lobby today waitin’ on a friend
I was on a cement stoop wishing I had my banjo.
We played in new zealand, beautiful towns and country
Now we are in australia and blowin through the dessert
With a fist full of whistles and beats
Meg white wakes up in the morning and composes beats.

Pretty soon it’ll be june and I’ll be chewing on plankton
and dreaming up a new
Threat to the neighbors.
The press keep telling me what it is that “I’m doing”
I’m so thankful, without them I wouldn’t know
What I was up to.
Had a cracker today too,
Boy oh boy,
St. gregory and st. cecilia
Are looming large at the present
Hung out with heddy lamar
And joe meek today.
Passed on a chance to save the world,
But took these people up on a cup of coffee
And a toast to the children.
The future seems to be paved with video games,
The gone fishin’ sign has been replaced with “keep out”
Things are lookin up though,
California’s got a new governor,
And the rest of us are on a road to
Restfull retirements in winnebago’s
Traveling the countryside
Looking for nothing in particular.
That’s a beautiful thought.

Woww....
I cant write long poem... So how about this poem? Though it's just a short poem i can write

The sunset was a sigh to behold,
not only in the western sky
It spilled its beauty all around
so it couldn't miss our eye
A crater of deepest purple,
with an icing of aqua-marine
A scene that would linger,
in minds and hearts
before it went on its way
It being called
Evening's Benediction

Hope this poem doesnt make u confuse *hahahaha*
