I don't know about places, but If you look at something like Dell, and you find a system you like, it will cost you 10%-50% more to build that same system! Dell (or companies like them) buys their parts in mass, this lowers the cost, which they then pass on to you. The advantage of building however, you get exaclty what you want, bad, there is no one to come crying to if it doesn't work, (except us, of course)

Moldboy is not correct. If you build your system, depending on the parts it can cost you more or it can cost you less. It depends on the parts you buy. I recommend Newegg.com or amazon, etc just because they tend to have the best prices and best shipping options. BUilding is way more fun and is a great learning experience plus you in the end get a better computer. Good luck

If you live in canada, then NCIX.COM is the cheapest place that i know of. You dont even have to pay full tax, and shipping is usually low or free.
You could also find the parts from ncix, then take the list to a local computer store and have them order in the parts and match the price or build it for you. Ofcourse, you have to know what you're doing to select the right parts from NCIX As for price, it really depends on the strength of the system you want. well, for what i know, you could try www.newegg.com. Usually they have some good stuff there for relatively cheap to other places. Of course every now and then there might be some store that has some stuff on sale. You can click www.slickdeals.net or www.digitaldeals.net for those deals.
I also found that sometime www.geeks.com have some nice stuff. I ordered a LX300 logitech wireless keyboard for 20 bux and came with a mouse. =P I actually think it's cheaper to buy a computer from dell than buidling a new one yourself, but if you are looking forward to extremely costumize your computer then building one is a good choice. If you are just looking for a decent computer, then i could recommand to buy one from dell. You could get one for 600 that comes with a 20" utrasharp widescreen LCD (cost around $450). That means the computer itself only cost 150. The computer is crappy either, it has a Pentium 4 processor at 2.8gbz, sometime the computer offers 1gb for the same price. You should check www.slickdeals.net every now and then to look for the deals. =P |

newegg is good or just oder a built computer. Unless you're building a performance computer, ordering from Dell or a computer assembling company would be cheaper for value.

if you wish to build your own computer i would definatly and most certainly plan like mad, make sure everything you buy is compatiable and future proof (be able to use with newer parts) then build it, or what you could do is buy a barebones system or a base unit and upgrade the parts u really need and leave the standard parts in, so flog the old bits and buy newer stuff!! that would be my best advice really but you can also buy parts off ebay as that will be just as cheap!
up to you though kyle |

What I am doing is I bought a cheap computer and then I upgrade the parts so I can still use it and build it at the same time. You can sell the old parts on ebay and stuff like that. As for places to buy, I use http://newegg.com to purchase parts and http://dell.com to get a computer.
