Some time ago, I promised to set up a test copy of PHPBB using the newest version. PHPBB version 3 is now at the Release Candidate stage and so here is a copy ready for inspection.

Note that this a fresh, vanilla install, right out of the package. Zero mods, zero config changes. In haven't even altered the Banner or Forum Description yet.

Register yourself or use the following log-in information to check it out:

user: user
pass: user_pass

IP tracking is in effect, so any abuse will be dealt with accordingly.

For those who wish to be allowed access to the Mod Control Panel or Admin Control Panel, PM me for the log-in information.

I like the new blue colors that they have. I think it looks nicer, they started using more colors like IPB. As for the posting look, I sort of like it but I don't also in a way. It's cool how it shows who is online by a little banner on the right of their post but it looks sort of too basic or something. Maybe it just takes some time to get used to it because I think I was expecting it looking different. The User Profile seems much more organized and doesn't show any blank fields, only the ones you have filled in which keeps you from searching. The User Control Panel is also a lot more organized and efficient when it comes to changing settings on the board or checking messages. I guess overall I like it. After a little getting used to it it may be something I would use.

Wow, it really looks good, and they have indeed made quite a lot of changes since then!

I liked almost all of it, will take some time to get used to it but it really seems wonderful to me right now! Though I didn't like a couple of things, the basic Vanilla skin and the fact that almost all of it's "interface" has rounded corners on all 4 corners... tongue.gif

But yeah overall, really liked it!

A few days back I was planning to use MyBB with a new forum I am going to make soon but now it's for sure I'll be using phpbb 3. biggrin.gif

That's a pretty blue! I love blue anyway. XD I signed up for PHPBB last night and downloaded it just to test it out. I don't understand it at all. LOL I guess I need to know PHP first.

What part might you need help with? Setting up the database or the configuration file, paths and such?
You do not need to know any php, specifically. Mostly it is having a Database built and knowing how to access the database by the correct name with a user name to access it.
Maybe I'll write a Tutorial on setting up a phpbb3 Forum. Would that help? It really is not difficult.

Start a topic if you have questions and someone will assist you.

Pretty cool I am assuming that you can change the layout and stuff right? Even though it is sort of obvious I still want to know for sure. I was going to do a forum but changed my mind instead, smile.gif

Check for skins and templates over at the phpbb site.

http://www.phpbb.com/

They have a Forum, too, with loads of links for Mods and Skins, etc. Happy Hunting...

Another good phpbb site is phpbbhacks.com, but I don't think they have much for the new version yet.

Php3 looks great and I am thinking to change my forum from SMF to PHP3. I like your opinion when should I do this now or should I wait for the full release. And also tell me which one is better SMF or Php3.
