This is just a poll on which forum soolution you like better. I like both - I just want to see what's YOUR opinion.

These two systems are very different. PHPBB is really old now and isn't very good. It is good if you want something really simple with nearly no features. PhpBB gets hacked a lot. The HTML is old and not standards compliant. IPB is much better all around. It has tons of features. PhpBB is free though. IPB costs money. My personal favorite solution is MyBB. It is completely free. It has lots of features to begin with. It also is very modular and allows you to install many available plugins for additional features. It is very fast and efficient. Did I mention it's free? That's my personal choice. There are other good free forums like SMF.

phpBB is a sad excuse for a forum system when matched up to IPB 2.x(note: Those are the boards that power this site, not the invisionfree junk). phpBB's CAPTCHA is absolute junk, it's admin CP is inferior and old, it's just not a decent forum system. phpBB 3 might be a little better, but it's not out of development yet.
I personally like FlatForum the best, but chances are you will probably think it's junk or inferior. This post has been edited by Tetraca: Jun 14 2007, 03:14 PM |

I don't exactly know why but whenever it comes to creating a forum I would always choose Invision Power Board, they just seems to have a lot of useful and easy to set up and use features that users would expect to see, especially with V2.
I haver never really been a fan of PhpBB, although they are free I have had too many problems with it for it to be a decent enough forum system, I was once trying to set one up with a friend and it just kept logging me out whenever I changed page. For the best free forum system though, it has to be SMF packed full of features and modifications, they also feel different to other forums out there. Chris. |

Have you guys ever tried MyBB? I had never heard of it. I don't even really remember how I found it. But I downloaded it and used it and was really impressed. It's actually quite similar to IPB

Well even though phpbb is old and outdated as reconraiders pointed out, I still voted for it because I kind of grew up with it. About 7 years ago ALL of the forums were phpbb and that was pretty much the only one i knew. I didn't hear about the others until only about 2 or 3 years ago... But whenever I need my own forums I always just code my own
I'm actually thinking of making my own free board like phpbb. Probably a two or three year job |

Well it depends solely on the person at hand. If
A. Your are looking for something free, and highly moddable, then of course the answer would be phpBB3 B. If you are looking for a good forum software, in which price is not an issue, then go for either vb or ipb. C. If neither software is what you are looking for, then go on and try to make your own. |

HAHAHA.
I just set up an IP Board and i have to tell you it is much better that PhpBB i have used PhpBB for long time it is really old and get's updates only like once in 2 years and the updates still dont match uo with that century. IP Boards are a new Forum looking to advance in every forum aspect. Since they are new they try to keep up with the odern times of forum needs and therefore are good. To take an example you can do this. 1. Go to http//:www.forumsland.com 2. Set up a PHPBB forums. 3. Customize it the way youl ike it 4. Now compare that forums to trap17 5. Of course T17 is better because it is hosted by IPB. Ofcourse the thing in IPB is skins are hard to customize whereas PhpBB has Mad many Skins already But anyway IPB is mucho mucho extravaganza better. Hope you like my input |
