A decent firewall for Windows is Sygate Personal Firewall.

AVG doesnt give free upgrade after the trial period have expired (if you downloaded the trial version) but you can always upgrade to full version thru some other means

well sophos is made by the people behind norton (symantec) its a program that simply deletes the core part of the virus so it cannot function and has a huge database of viruses that is updated every month. my dad gets it free from his work because hes a HP contractor but im not sure if u can buy it commercially. www.sophos.com
