OFF TOPIC
I was going to leave this topic alone because of the fact that dreamweaver and notepad are the best editors, but I am noticing a lot of spamming going between you to and I find it rather annoying that your spamming the forums over something so stupid as if a html editor is free or not. Point is you two are both off topic regardless about what you are talking about and so I am going to solve this little problem right now. As concerns with edit plus it is shareware meaning you can have it past 30 days, however, past that 30 days you will not get any tech support on this product and you won't be able to upgrade to later versions. Thus the reason why you can purchase a liscense for this software that unlocks these features I just mentioned. Of course usually after trial period ends they will lock you out of the program until you purchase the software or uninstall it, but since I don't know what will happen nor do I care to find out run it for 30 days and see what happens. No it is not illegal to use after 30 days even if they don't lock you out, it only becomes illegal if you crack the software or get illegal serial numbers and all that stuff. Also who cares if you don't list the editor you use anqii that is the reason why you post and say why this editor is better then the rest and blah blah as there is no need to argue about someones post on a topic that is not even debatable to the point of which html editor is the best, its the posters opinion about the software. ON TOPIC Now that I have ended that discussion I would say that these editors would be good to start out with but the problem with editors like this they usually produce a lot of junk code thats why you usually want to stick with well known, name brand html editors. |

Saint Michael: I'd argue that any WYSIWYG editor will give you a lot of junk code. Text editors are usually the way to go (in my experience). A lot of those WYSIWYG editors are amazing as text editors too (dreamweaver is quite excellent).

How do I change tab colors in Wordtabs?
The Best And Free Website/html Editors + Text Editors I know it must seem pretty simple, but I can't change the tab colors in Wordtabs. I used to use this excellent program all the time, with no problem, but all of a sudden, all the tabs are dark gray and it's hard to see the black type on them. Could someone help? -question by Jonathon |

A Text Editor that will remove multiple line returns
The Best And Free Website/html Editors + Text Editors I seem to pick up a lot of text files that have multiple line returns between paragraphs. My needs for text editing are very simple, little beyond notepad, but finding one that will search for and replace all multiple line returns down to a predefined one or two, isn't going very well. A second point. In writing this I am finding the text position has jumped and I'm over-writing or inserting text in previous lines, this seems to happen a lot particularly in Outlook Express and Notebook, its happened twice whilst I've written the last 4 lines. Does anyone else have this problem. And is there an easy way to eliminate it. Many thanks for any advice you can give. -question by Dave Thomson |

I have used nvu for a while now. And no offense to it, cause its a solid html editor, but i find sometimes that it freezes on me, and other little things that just bug me. I'm going to try some of the other editors on the list. I bet all these programs are good and have very distinct features. No single editor is right for every person. Lyon was wise to have a list of ones he recommended. Its all a matter of taste I am a newbie at website development and i have been using nvu as well. I find it to be a very good program with wysiwyg and source code functions. Sometimes it does act a tad laggy, and im running 2gb dual channel, e6300, so it might be a little memory hog, although ive never checked the task manager to verify. I like the interface however with ftp capabilities and easy to understand tools. I will continue to use it most of all because it is open source (linspire). |

Great list! I currently use a mix of Notepad and Notepad ++, but I think I'll give some of these a go to see what they are like. Some of them look very nice by looking at their sites and screenshots
