It is strange, how Google can offer such a thing.
I do believe because of the welfare of Google’s businesses, they indeed have more than enough. Terabytes should be no problem for them, the company offer much more than just mail, they have all it’s other services, bound to make them some sort of cash. Possibly they have every time someone clicks search, they gain a penny, ether way, they have tons of stuff. If with that money, they can buy, even create whatever, maybe they have a server that holds like, 100 terabytes, and they have maybe 1000 of them, hell I don't know, but Google is just that big. |

OK, just a quick..say 100 people joined GMail. How many do you think is going to use use the 2gig on their account. My guess would be 5 out of the 100 people would just about used 1 gig. the rest wouldnt have used that much space. Eg myslef i have used only 20mg..and have only 5000 emails on my account. So if you think about it..GMail might only have about 10-50 servers with a total of about a terrabyte ot few. i think they only have 2.5gig space as a publicity stunt. So yeha i dont think they would have 2million gigabyte thou the google brothers would be able to buy that much.

i really wanna know. this is like serious.. if 512 users sign up for gmail, then they use up a terabyte of space... now its more than like to have around hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people who would've signed up for gmail.. now this is getting a bit unbeleivable.. if a million people sign up... 2 million gigabytes... now where thats like nearly 2000 terabytes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! enough to store all the information that every human ever spoke since the dawn of time(k..k.. i am exxxxagerating) , now how does google store this much space???? or is it just kidding... mayb they dont provide 2 gbs of space, they probably know that no person on earth can fill up 2 gigs... so actually the size might just be around 200 megs... so if you do use up 200 mb, the size increases to 300 .. etc etc.. just a marketing gimmick of sort... donnno. they might be true tho anyone who knows anybody in google?? and know the real truth?? or do they use the next generation in storage technology or something????? curious, Tariq The space offered by google is not dedicated space...it is a shared space....So if 5 users sign-in then google dos not spend exactly 10 GB but it may initially alloocate 100 MB each and if they are crossing the limnit then again they keep on increasing the space.... it is never 2 GB dedicated to each users. |

Google space
How Much Space Does Google Have On Their Servers? Replying to tariqrf Google has petabytes of space (1 petabyte = 1,024 Terabytes) on lowcost computers in clusters of server farms around the world. -reply by Jeremy |

Google processes 20 petabytes a day, thats around 7 EXABYTES in 2007 (not storage btw). But from an extremely rough guesstimation, I'm thinking they have around the 150 petabyte range of storage. Since they have an estimate of 450,000 servers with two 160 gig drives!

I wouldnt have thought they have enough for every user using the maximum, thatis just the limit.
they will expect people to only use say.... 5 GB at the most probably. The limit is just there to make it look good!! (free email with so much storage looks really good) By the way, its not 2TB limit, the limit is constantly increasing. There is a page, which show the limit at that exact time. but it seems to go up a few bytes every second. I dont suppose they have enough stprage for anyting like the amount of users. But not very many people will come close to filling it up. |
