IMO private servers for any game is kinda retarded. I mean sure its free but like thats not the way the game was meant to be played. I know how wow can be very expensive, but the creators spent a lot of time creating the game. I believe that if people play the game and are true fans they would play on the normal servers to keep supporting their game and help make future games even better with that support.
I have been playing wow for about 3 years and I tell you it has been a fun experience, right now im currently leveling my last character in the series to level 70. Once i get full epic gear im going to sell the account for around $800 dollars. I'm not gonna lie though, its a very addicting game and it does take up a lot of your time to play. I still have a social life though so its good to play wow every now and then. But after I sell my account it will be good to get away from it. What I really cant wait for now is Age of Conan and Left 4 Dead, those are some of my most anticipated games of 2008. |

It all depends on what kind of gaming experience you are looking for. Everyone's opinion is different when it comes to private servers.

Blizz had plenty of money with the millions that play it right now not to mention the continuous others that play their non online games. I do not think that they are in any near danger of floundering financially. Also it is not like the private servers don't have a lot of money sunk into what they provide to others for free. I myself am a GM/Forum Administrator and Webmaster on the private server that I help run. We script what needs to be scripted and fix what needs to be fixed when it comes to bugs. I tell you I have a lot more fun on a close knit private server than I do on retail. But that is my opinion and preference. This is where I play and GM at: http://www.rebirthofdeceivedrealm.com |

I never really liked World of Warcraft...I mean I played it for a while and all, but I had issues with it.
1)Too many children play it 2)The graphics look like they're from a cartoon 3)I didn't really feel like it was open ended enough 4)I hated how there were no real penalties for dying. |

Havent played on a private server yet. Well I had played on the official test servers on Horde and Alliance toons (eg Free S3 Arena gear ftw and people go into BGs/Arena since its a official designated test server for any future patches), yet I have to agree that people running around in T5 and T6 gear on private servers bought off a vendor sounds kinda 'noobish'.

I have to agree with the responses saying that they are mostly a waste of space. I've played on numerous private servers ( WoWscape mainly ) and have even hosted a few on my LAN. I'm currently playing on a WoTLK alpha server just to see all the new gadgets.
The game is completely bugged on the private servers however. Very few quests work, and even when they do you have to deal with NPC's bugging out and instable servers. Also having to worry about doing a quest only for it to be broken sucks. Quest : Kill 10 wolves and bring me back their liver. Played : I killed 200 wolves to finally get ten wolf livers. Quest : I'm sorry this quest is out of order. Player : WTF Also having to worry about if the server is still going to be there in a day is kinda scary. =/ |

Private servers for wow sucks alot go play official
 im curently playin my Hunter lvl 70 (MM/SV draining spec for arenas) on Chromaggus realm (EU) but geting bored hoepfully WOTLK brings back some WOrld PVP |
