Well microsoft has always been told they will never stand chance when they went in to the gaming business and look at them now they are on the top right now. It did not take long for them to have the best gaming system it is going to be a matter of time that the microsoft pulls off something so super that it is going to blow google out. I dont think defeat is in microsoft vocbulary. biggrin.gif

No way, microsoft can never, ever, ever, ever^398573456345387456
overtake google.
Google is so many peoples homepage, and most peoples favourite search. it is also the best. by far.
microsoft obviously underestimate the powr of google. Adding new features to a search engine is no good, in the end, its the size of the index, and the best results.

Some people have shorter memories than others. I recall having similar thoughts to minimcmonkey when I first heard about Google. "No way they will ever compete with Altavista, the biggest and most popular Search Engine around, Altavista is the best!" And at the time they were, everybody that I knew used Altavista as their preferred search engine back then. That was before Google moved in and set up shop. These days you could almost be forgiven for thinking that Google invented the idea of Internet Search Engines. They didn't. It was being done long before they came around. They just found a way of doing it better. It is just as conceivable that somebody else, setting up from a geekshop in their garage could create another new idea that surpasses even Google. Remember their roots. Google started out as a college project operating out of somebody's garage. If they can get to become the megopoly that they are today from such humble beginnings, imagine how a company such as Microsoft, with a huge R&D budget and a whole horde of eggheads in their army, imagine what they could do in the Internet Search Engine market if they put their minds to it. I think it is possible that Microsoft could overshoot Google if they applied themselves, but no more possible than some previously unheard of startup company with a great new idea coming along and overtaking Google as the next big thing.

travstatesmen said it all, no company nor nobody or no human is the best at something forever, it always appears someone or something else later on that had a greater and more inteligent idea, a more organized, creative and coordenated and inovative idea, no to talk that if you invent a better technology too, then if you have a better and faster and effective technology like google had at the time and developed it during this time, as well as their programming (their algorithms, mainly).

So, street, next time when you try to predict something with your "super powers" (joking), try to use your better judgement and good sense, because myself and travstatesmen have it in high quantities.

Erm, actually freeflashclocks, it was minimcmonkey amongst others in this thread who were upholding the negative opinion about Microsoft overtaking Google in the Search Engine wars. If you read through street's post again, you'll see that he/she is agreeing that Microsoft could overtake Google, and I agree with street that "I dont think defeat is in microsoft vocbulary".

My advice to you freeflashclocks: read more, post less, and that way when you post it will be more meaningful. xd.gif

Microsoft overtake Google in a search engine war?

Possible.

Unlikely.

Market share:
Microsoft: 0
Google: 100

Honestly, I don't know anyone who uses anything other than google. Microsoft Live Search is really really bad, I never find what I am looking for and it is just easier to pop over to google and search it.

I also like the fact with google it does maths for you (2 + 4.4) etc. and you can use 'Define:cats' and you get definitions.

Plus the fact there is Google Earth and Google Chrome- its a wonder that Google haven't overtaken Microsoft already!

It seems, and it really seems, that microsoft created a better search engine then google search engine, at least that is what i have seen.

First of all, live.com microsoft search engine, is becoming more and more popular day-by-day, not because of the ads and publicity, no my trap17 collegues, it is because a a large number of features, design, structure and effectiveness of the new live.com search engine owned by microsoft, which is very fast, crawls much more then google search engine does, and it seems to be much more result related then google in many search keywords and search keyword phrases, according to my online experience and from what i read.

I really hope that live.com continues growing like it has been growing, and i can and must tell you that live.com also have developed a lot in a very small amount of time, not very usual in search engines because it takes a lot of time to grow, it always takes a very long time to grow, to grow in a proper and correct way, live.com seems to have very good programmers, designers, and so on, their algorithms must be top of the line too.

Much like the Blue-ray/HD-DVD war, I think I will just sit back, grab the popcorn, wait and see.
Never underestimate the greedy resourcefulness of Microsoft.. they smell profits and are armed for bear.

A search engine was only the bases of Google, t he reason it worked was because it was simple. You had a bar, you wrote what you wanted and clicked a button. You can’t get any simpler then that. Microsoft should aim for their own audience instead of trying to persuade people to change from Google to them.

If I was Microsoft I’d aim for a more complex approach which has better results and better everything then Google, that way you’ll get serious computer people using them. Take a different approach instead of just mimicking an existing one. Be individual, Microsoft have the money to try something different.

A word to Microsoft, stop trying to compete and just dominate. You created Google, no Microsoft, no Google. Remember that.

When Live.com was created at the time of the creation of this topic, it sucked badly. After 1 year of the creation of this topic, after some look improvements, it still sucks. Remember the time when vista came out? Well, if you searched for Bad Vista (FSF's campaing against Vista and it's DRM) on other searhes it returned the BadVista.org official website as the first result, but if you searched for the same result on MS's Live?

What do you guess?

BadVista wasn't even in the top 10 results, I can't remember how deep under it was.

That's all I have to say about MS's Live.com .
