* So what do/did you like about school? Learning interesting things, making friends and being with them, knowing that as long as you are still in school, you have an excuse not to work lol * What makes/made you stay in school and keep going/finish? Knowing that I need an education to get a decent job, in my country, that is. My country stresses very much on the importance of education. * How can schools make it more enjoyable? Through the use of multimedia instead of the boring old blackboard, teachers should also try to be more interactive with the students. Teachers should not segregate themselves from the students. Only by trying to integrate with the students and showing compassion and understanding will you be readily accepted by your students. More group work and discussions during class also helps to encourage students to think and share too. * What is your most memorable experience in class, good or bad? The time where my class had to put together a play about racial harmony in the society was very interesting. We put our heads together to write the script and create the plots. We learnt a lot from each other. Good luck with your goal. Teaching is stressful work. I can just tell from observing my teachers lol But if you are really passionate about it, you will be a good teacher. |

Oh, btw, find a club that needs a sponsor, or an existing club - students like sponsoring teachers.

QUOTE(TikiPrincess @ Sep 13 2007, 02:46 AM) I've seen lots of threads about how school sucks and people who hate their teachers. As a future teacher myself, this saddens me because it seems that by the time students get around to my classes in high school, they're already apathetic about the education system. I'd like to change some of these preconceptions and reach out to my students to keep them involved and interested in my class.
First of all, thanx for showing interest in this field... Really appreciate. These are surely traits of a good teacher. For lectures i can advise some tips.... 1)Start the lecture with some background, and thoughts that student can relate to their life, and make them feel like this is surely related to their life. 2) The lectures should be very interactive, with some teaching aids, more than mere textual stuff... 3) Take a stance of understanding concepts to be paramount, rather mugging stuff, that is expected in the exams. we in this fast changing world are looking for innovation, new ideas, and not just spitting out old knowledge for the sake of passing exams. 4) Make sure the class has some healthy competition, and it is having pride to excel or to be good in ur lectures 5) Be a lot much approachable after lectures, and encourage to come up with ideas and interaction. 6) Dont threat students with exams, but make them understand and write important concepts than whole sale mugging. 7) In case of under par performance, stop them from gettin discouraged and make them realize how close they were to their goals and how they can surmount the hurdles and mistake they might have commited. Sincere wishes from a reformist student. |

Thats really cool, that you care about what we think, and might incorporate it into your teacher!! thumbs up(: well me myself, the classes that i enjoy the most, are the ones where the teacher is just extremely cool, but its not like they dont leave you homework or make the class seem like lunch, the teachers that are like, are just really down to earth people, who are always cracking jokes, or laughing about themselves you know?? like my english teacher, she was amazing!!! i might not like english and find it boring. but that teacher, she just knew how to make us feel good, and wanna come to class and learn!!! she would always tell us stories about what she did when she was our age, [and it wasnt like she told us, i studied 24/7 to try to become president or something, she told us all the cool things she did, and the trouble she got into etc], and since she has kids our age, shes always talking about them, and saying how they want cool clothes like us etc.. haha.. one thing i reccommend you do is, not lecture for the whole class, that is so.. omgad boring, my pre-calculus teacher does that for 2 hours, and well honestly, everyone is ether daydreaming or sleeping after the first 45 minutes, so dont do that, and if you must lecture for a long time, average it out, with some freetime, or even teamwork/ put everyone in groups, that seems to work in most classes! well goodluck!! |

* So what do/did you like about school? Currently I am finishing 10th grade, and now I realise what a great class I went in. My classmates are all awesome, even though I do not fancy all of them at the same level. I liked when we went on trips on the mountain, went bathing and cycling. I also loved when we had group projects, well at least working with it. The part when we had to show it for the class were not that bad when we were a group. But still a bit terrifying. I would do anything to go there another year! It is always when I am done with things I realise how great it was. * What makes/made you stay in school and keep going/finish? People have always had expectations for me. When I did great at school after worked hard people did not really bother that much, because I was always good. Annoying, yes. The few times I was tired or bored and did not do my homework people would stare at my asking why. I was bored, okey? You get tired of always trying to live up to expectations of family, friends, classmates and teachers. The thing that kept me going was when I got to see my grades. I like it when I do good, and I tend to get really disappointed when I am not that good. * How can schools make it more enjoyable? Well my school could at least give us food. It has always been a (horrible) tradition here that we need to bring our own lunch. That lunch often contains bread. Bread, and water. Wonderful, right? It would improve many students, because many does not even bother to eat. No breakfast and no lunch. Your brain need food, and we should get food. That disgusting bread is not very tempting. * What is your most memorable experience in class, good or bad? I do not know! There are so many... Most of the ones I really remember are from several trips we went on. Spending time with your classmates is great. I love it. But the thing I remember very good right now is the musical. Our school focus a lot at acting, playing and singing so we set up a musical. (Like every year) It was great. A wonderful time, with wonderful people. I really learned a lot. |

Wow - This is a cool thread!! I like school most of the time - This is mainly because i can see my friends in lessons that I am not interested in, and between lessons. School is a great place to meet friends - And there is always someone around. Also, I can improve skills in maths and music - I play the piano, and as the school i go to specialises in performing arts, Im able to play music with other musicians - which is fun as well as greate practice. Yea, The reason i stay in school is because I really want a good degree - and school is the only way to get there really. As well as being able to see my friends - I live a fair way away from most of my friends, so school is great for meeting up. |

School What Do/did You Enjoy About School? I agree that home work help to improve our knowledge, but it just sucks. As for me, it's enough to read only onceor twice and I got the text/rule/whatever memorised. I could interpretate a text by jsut reading it twice (or once if its a book, but that's what anyone can do if they're quite expirianced at interpretations) My teachers... Well we have quite a bunch of teachers that are real stupid. For example... My geography teacher 'Svajunas Sugaudis'... H I wish you saw him during last year's final exam... A guy leaned down to pick up his pen, that fell. The teacher came and made him stand up. Then he lifted the cahir and checked if there aren't anything attached or written on it. You know... To much leads to an insanity. P.S. 'enzo' is my nickname and I'm not italian!! -reply by enzo |
