I have to agree that there are still a proportionate amount of dial-up users (old people) but most of the youngans that go to the "pop" websites are kinda broadbandish. I only know a couple of people my age with dialup.

I work in technology/stuff shop (*BLEEP* Smith Electronics -- Aus/NZ store) and even then only old people have dialup usually or people that dont use computers much at all that i talk to.

For me, The lay-out of the site. fast or slow loading? the navigations also... easy to navigate that won't take time to find something that you're looking for... and also, but most of all... the content. thats it!

The most important thing for my website is : visitors biggrin.gif
The next important thing for me is the way i place my ads, this is very important .
most of the users should not be able to identify whether they are a part of the website or jus pure plain ads. So Optimization is very important.
after tat i think about the colours and also if its a Register to site , the placement of the register icon plays an important role ,and then but not the least how well my server supports my site.,

cheers!

I'm a little like the OP on this one. I like simple designs, pretty graphical, but nothing too crazy. I usually use Photoshop to design my main layout and then code it from there and see waht happens. When i'm designing I usually listen to some music or something....get me focused ya know? I've been known to design while a little stoned but that's hit or miss. Sometimes it's great and sometimes it's not lol. So yea I like pretty basic stuff for now. Haven't gotten too far in terms of glash designing and stuff so I try to keep my stuff simple and easily loadable.

Unlike what alot of the members have posted here minimalistic and "dial-up friendly" websites are not exactly what I go for. I am more interested it making a classy (a website with lots of images and smooth either glass or 3d-looking curves but NOT FLASHY) I love tables and everything organized nicely, I don't like websites with tons of animated annoying gif images or strange background colors. In my opinion your background color should not be colorful at all. It should either be white, black, or a shade of gray, and if you must use a color, make it very muted, either so dark its almost black or so light its almost white. In my opinion this makes the website look professional and not like you just threw it together in a few seconds.

When making my website the most important thing is making all your information easy to access when you need to edit. Cause going in to 100+ pages just to add a new link will take a lot of time out of your design.

I must say though if your website is coded with php this isn't much of an issue, just those terrible html only websites *hissss* dry.gif

I enjoy having to design the website, from the css sheet. Having all the basics, borders and background colours, to make something which loads fast and is easy to the eye. I also always have some sort of slideshow which is easy to use, just upload the image in a certain folder on your site and it will be added to the slideshow.

Always have 2 coloumns, one bigger then the other. The banners sometimes I have them so they change on each load, that random image.php trick. Also I normally add different skins, if the website I design is in one colour, I allow them to change it.

I dont really care if it has graphics or not, as long as its innovative. If it has something new I am definitely going to like it. The first websites that came out with the very glossy images and logos were cool, but then every site was soon like that. I have seen some wierd and cool sites that are unique and original in the way they display their webpage, or in the way that they are designed, and for me those are the websites that count. Though most importantly, before all of this, the user interface does take a really important part, well atleast when its a website in which Im looking for important information. I can really get annoyed If I dont find the specific content I am looking for in a short amount of time.

I prefer to make non-flashy and non-epilepsy-causing websites. Since I love the oriental, I try to make my sites look that way somehow. Like said before, simplicity!
