Well, I suppose if you don't care about the ethics and like the stuff they make, then no, there is no point in doing anything about it. I myself don't generally deliberately support the extreme side of capitalism (have you seen what MS has done to any number of smaller companies over the years?). But call me a Linux Hippie. That's the sterotype, isn't it? Each to his own - I really should stop attacking people in such a vicious way just because they have different moral constraints.

It's fun to see the variety of responses people come up with, though.

Yeah - attacking people who don't agree with your personal choices is probably a bad idea. It certainly doesn't encourage others to respect your beliefs. smile.gif

But, hey, go Linux all you want. I'm all for capitalism and free enterprise.

Oh...and back to the topic at hand: one can also purchase legal copies of MS Word through Web sites like pacificgeek.com - right now 2000 is 21 bucks, plus shipping. I'm pretty sure that the software is still sealed, but don't quote me on that. If it is, then that's a pretty good deal as far as I'm concerned.

I think that there is no way of getting Microsoft Office for Free, but you can get the same functionality in Open Office and Abi Word and there are a huge range of free and opensource Office sutes and even the Google Docs for editing your documents online.

if you don't mind downloading torrents for programs. which is free and claims to be legal.

i suggest you just search for it at mininova or something. mininova claims not to give away ip's from downloads too so it would be very difficult for people to know you have it. hell i think you can the whole microsoft office from mininova or any torrent downloading site for that matter.

unless you are to in touch with your morals to rip of a multi billion dollar company for a few dollars.

i just downloaded openoffice i think it is really nice for free. so if you don't know how to download microsoft office with a torrent i would co with openoffice.

Of course you can get Microsoft Office for free: just go to their website and download the trial: you have a choice of Professional, Enterprise etc.
You even get to use it for 60 days!

Now, KEEPING Microsoft Office for free for longer than that IS illegal, laugh.gif

Anything is possible in the world of the internet. So yes, you can get it for free at your own risk.

Uhm, lemme think, dude...

Uhm...

Mhhh...

No...

Yes...

Yeah!

Take a pencil and write this address: billg@microsoft.com

Send a mail to that address pleading for a free copy of Microsoft Word.

If uncle Gates is in good mood, don't doubt that you receive in your hotmail account a link with to download a free copy12

Man, at this time all the Microsoft Office products are commercial software, you need a license to use them.

As people here said, go with OpenOffice, it's free, has a wordprocessor very alike to Winword and other software like spreadsheet, presentation and more. cool.gif
