The problem with purchasing domains over the net isnt really much on the money or the cost of the domain, it's actually on the mode of payment. It's not that people cant afford domains, it's just that students and other people dont have credit cards or paypal accounts required when purchasing domains. If only domains were available over the counter, it wouldnt be such a problem.
I think that a single text link is fair enough for a free domain. Atleast they're not asking for an image banner. Im not so sure about the fairness of their point system, but I believe it's also reasonable. Trap 17 has certain rules, hostbidder has their own rules too. And like trap 17, they have forums that reward less or no points at all. And they have forums who reward large point coz these forums are the ones that contribute more to their site. Ok, I should stop now, before everyone thinks I work for hostbidder or something. |

Students like me (well, not eternal students like me, I mean students who actually go to their universities Plus, If we're talking about domain names exclusively, depending on the country, there are certain ways you can buy it the domain name, especially if you live in a country where cash is dominant in transactions (well, in most places it's dominant but I mean the not-so-massive usage of credit cards), but you must use a company of your country... For example, I for one, had the possibility of credit card (which I don't have), a payment through mail (which is 10 blocks away) and a payment to a bank account (which is 8 blocks away) and I naturally chose the latter. Still, this offer is great, because, naturally, not doing anything and not paying anything other than ...your time, is a good bargain nowadays, especially for losers like me who don't have anything to do |

Unfortunately for me, I live in a country who doesnt have prepaid credit cards so I'm left with either credit cards, wire transfer or bank deposits. The problem with bank deposits is that the domain may be really cheap (when you're lucky, you can catch a .com domain for $2), but the bank charge is way too high. Especially if the bank is in another country. Same with wire transfers, they usually charge around $12 for a $10 money transfer. So it's really impractical I must say. Im not sure if a lot of people would be willing to pay a transfer charge that's 4 times the prices of a domain. It kinda defeats the purpose.
But I'm not saying that it holds true for everyone who wants a free domain. I do agree that there really are some people out there who really just wants things for free just for the fun of it because its FREE. But Im just pointing out the other side of the story. |

There is a really easy way for you to get a domain hosted with out having to use a pay pal account or a credit card. There are some sites that accept money orders and checks one site that i am using is dreamhost.com i paid for my .net by money order. It takes at least 5-10 days for them to get your money on your account and then after that you will be able to choose your domain with no string attached the only thing you have to do is pay when your 1yr is up.

As for me I'm almost disconnected from the world financially.
My country doesn't offer any money transferring or pay orders or CC or any money services, paypal wouldn't even allow me to enter their servers before this new year started.. It used to say that I'm not allowed because I'm entering their server from a sanctioned country. There's almost no way for me to pay for stuff online.. and the only option here for me to send money to outside this country is by mail or something which costs X 10 the amount I want to send So yeah.. I like free stuff, cause I'm not able to pay for it... Well.. A lot of money "technologies" will be implemented in my country very soon (They say that). So.. until then.. free stuff are my only option online. My point is.. There's people who just LOVE free stuff just because it's free, but on the other hand..There's people who are really in need for free stuff, because it's their only option. well who needs one...you could get a .tk domain name for free.... and a .co.nr also....so .com stuff is not necessary...well being active both here and there is a little hard, so lets not do that....

This sounded like a really nice idea, but, I know this is being ungrateful, the whole having to link to HostBidder on your page thing has put me off.
No strings attached should mean exactly that, no strings attached. |

It's a nice idea, but aren't they asking for a bit too much? They want you to post on their forum each day, to get 30point things, that means that in 40 days you should have your domain. I wouldn't really trust them though, they might rip you off and not give you your domain after you have made so many posts on their forums, or they might give you your domain and then link it to an ad infested site, getting all of your customers to go there.
They also want you to link to them on EVERY page, they aren't even hosting your account, they are just giving you a domain, but it is for free. I'm going to investigate their site and see what I come up with |
