I do think people should maybe contribute to making Free templates but not all should be free. There are already many sites professional, and personal, and clan templates at http://clantemplates.com and many other sites. I think though that they should only be used for personal sites or soley owned businesses or something not that big. Like stated before site designs do take time and work to make just like it does to make a painting so it just can't be given away for free all the time or it would be a waste of time if someone was doing it for a living because they wouldn't make any money.

I partially agree to your idea. But what about those who are only good at web design and can't get a job in any other fields. They gotta make money too, they do have a life. But for those who are able to share please do. Web designers should share their works--but not all. There are some that should be sold because it's all hard work. They took a lot of time to make those templates. It's not easy to make great professional templates.

I believe that there must be a number of free good professional templates out there for the public. Some people just could not afford buying expensive templates. Others, mostly teenagers, could not buy anything off the internet since they don't have credit cards. So free stuff (including templates) should be present on the internet. And we should thank all of those who are trying to contribute with their creations.
Now on the other hand, if a huge company decides to build a website, they shouldn't go for a free template. After all, this website is going to make them make lots of money. So in such cases, the company must find a professional web designer/developer and ask him to make an exclusively unique template for the website, for a considerably good price.
But, one more thing, concerning the free templates, all rights must be reserved and a link to the designers website must be present on the template. It should be incorporated in the images that constitute the template so that no one could remove the link. I think this is a good way to show appreciation to the designer who worked hard on producing the free template.
