There are alot of scripts that are preinstalled. But they aren't really up to date. They are pretty old. I mean there is Invision Power Board 2.1 right now and comparing it to 1.2 thats pretty bad. Plus all the Portals that are available to preinstall i'f just search it on google then installing it from there it may take a bit longer but it will be up to date atlest. Thats my opionion but hey you can do what ever you want with your things.

I would stay here. I have started a forum up here in the past and there was practically no server downtime. My forum left plenty of space for the rest of my site. I am still very happy with Trap17 hosting even though I don't have my hosting right now.

I have very little experience with PHP. So I was wondering how easy is it to set up a PHPBB forum?

Is much PHP experience needed? I've done the really basic things like echo and thats about it.

Or should I just stick to using things like invisionfree and put up with ads?

www.iphorum.com is a nice forum without ads when I first tried it. I'm still pretty sure that it doesn't have any ads. The admin cp for this forum has lots of choices. They have just about all the templates installed in their databse.

I think the only bad thing is that Trap17 only has IPB 1.3 and you can't get higher than that without buying the license which costs a few hundred dollars a year. If anyone knows of a place to get the lastest IPB or IPB 2.1, I would gladly like to know. 'Cause I think IPB 1.3 sucks.

Ao)K-General, trap17 and all the others free hosting services that offer free ipb forums, offer the 1.3 version because it's free.

If you want, you can upload the ipb 1.3 to a free or pay host server and use that version without limitations, as if it were registered.

If you want the 1.3, just private email me, and i'll send it to you.
