I Think the PC should be ON everytime, expecially if you use it a lot. If you reset your pc you spend a lot of energy to reboot it, more than leaving it always on. Or not?

I don't leave mine on 24/7. Not just because it would kill the electricity bill, but it also kills the environdment!

Yay, that's a really good inquiry! If you have made a pool, you were going to be the best biggrin.gif
I don't leave my *new* computer on, couse my *old* one got full of dust and the fan of the GPU stopped... Soon the vid card overheated and at the end it broke itself... Same happened to the CPU fan biggrin.gif

But now I'm hearing that the fans of my *new* computer, after half year are gonna go the same way... Although I don't keep it on. So ppl, go get the maximum profit of your maschine, before its components go overheat rolleyes.gif

my mac book pro is basically on 24/7. I gotta leave it on for downloading movies/music. Sometimes I worry my mac will over heat but somehow it just keeps going. I've had it for over a year now and its still in good condition.

I never leave it on full time....

I often will leave it on for a few days if I'm pulling some all nighters... I usually pull at least two in a row when I do them....

I also leave them on for a while if I've got some huge Bryce Renders that I'm working on, and then I'll usually photoshop them after so that takes a while... meh... Its on quite a bit when I actually turn it on....

I very rarely turn mine off, I never really have unless vacation or gonna be gone for a couple days. I have also done this for years and nothing has ever happened to any of my pc's once in a great while I will turn it off jsut to give it a break other than that this pc is on 24/7 actually we have 3 pc's in the house that are on 24/7, and nothing has ever happened to any of them.

I have never tried to leave my computer on for a such a long time. But one of my friend did that, first he had no problems but later his computer started working slow.According to me the computer need to be turned off so so that it also gets some relaxation time as we do that by having a nap.
I would never try that, because I think the computer can get blown off and after that I am dead because my parents wouldn't like to have a blown off computer and also there is a risk to other household appliances.

Whenever I leave my computer on for a long time, it always hangs when I try using it again, but aren't start/restart cycles bad for hardware?

it only puts thermal stress on the components, that is why it was cheaper for ENIAC to be kept on continuously. Although kepping components on reduces its lifetime, resarting cycles put a lot of thermal stress for many components (namely the CPU, the GPU and RAM) some cheaper components also get the chance of power surges when you turn them on...
