How about making that phone free supported by ADs .. LOL! Just like their Search, Gmail and Google Earth! biggrin.gif

yeah , wonderful idea , and they can have service like "ADSMS" , similar to adsense. if anyone clicks on the ads sent thro sms ,, u get paid. i would be quite a revolution. But it would be more sort of an mms than a SMS , gotta have grps enabled.

or 3G for instance ,, Lotta scope in the future.
my personal opinion is google should soon come out with its own operating system ..

may be after a few years we could see.. Goooooooogle Loading insteafd of XP,VISTA,OR mac os.

Well, I would be really looking forward to the GPhone as I didn't quite much like the Aple iPhone neither did I find it worth the money. If it's really good and really practical without much added gloss then I would definitely give it a try.

It's Google so I am sure they will probably come up with something really good. Even though what I see in the screenshots still don't appeal me, I'll wait for this and if it ever happens I would be quite eager to get my hands on it! smile.gif

These information are all fake information that are floating around in lots of blogs and arcticles in the internet. Google would surely oficially announce about any new stufs like this. By the way google being a web services company. How can they suddenly come up with an all new mobile phone. it is perfectly impossible. May be google is tying up with some mobile manufacturer to provide some google software platform in mobile phones.

QUOTE
Google, the nearly $13.5 billion search engine major, is believed to be a fortnight away from the worldwide launch of its much-awaited Google Phone (Gphone) and has started talks with service providers in India for an exclusive launch on one of their networks.

Talks are believed to be taking place with Bharti Airtel [Get Quote]and Vodafone Essar, respectively India's first and third largest mobile telephony operators, and state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam.

Sources close to the development said a simultaneous launch across the US and Europe is expected, and announcements would be sent to media firms in India and other parts of the world. US regulatory approval, which is expected soon, is the only hurdle that Google is waiting to cross, they added. Google plans to invest $7-8 billion for its global telephony foray.

In India, it is also believed to be in talks with Indian providers to offer data and content and platforms including Instant Messaging (IM) and Search functions. However, these could not be confirmed.

A Google spokesperson said, "We don't comment on market rumour or speculation. However, Google is committed to providing users with access to the world's information, and mobile becomes more important to those efforts every day. We're collaborating with partners worldwide to bring Google search and applications to mobile users everywhere. However, we have nothing to announce at this time."

Reports of the Internet major getting into handset manufacturing as an answer to Apple's iPhone has been doing rounds in cyberspace and international media for some time. These reports suggest that Google has developed a prototype that will hit the markets in a year's time. The US-based company has neither confirmed nor denied these reports. The Wall Street Journal too had reported that Google had invested "hundreds of millions of dollars" in the project and was involved in discussions with US-based T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless.

Globally, Google is likely to participate in the upcoming auction for 700 MHz spectrum for which it is prepared to spend up to $4.6 billion. The firm is also introducing ads to YouTube videos which could be replicated on mobile phones. Ironically, Google recently partnered Apple to produce services such as e-mail and maps for its iPhone handset. And Eric Schmidt, Google's chief executive, said recently that more Google services for the iPhone would be rolled out.

Yay Rediff says the GPhone will also come to India!!!! Since we don't have the AT&T network here, 98% Indians must not have seen the iphone!

PS:I hope I've got the quotes right

I don't like the idea of google making tangible things... they should keep working inside Internet, there are already good enterprises making technologic gadgets and that.

if the mobile industry is "quiet" about the existence of the gphone pending the actual official release by google themselves of this "gphone", it is because the people in the know (who really can tell if this gphone exists yet or not) are bound by the terms of confidentiality which they have most definitely signed before they ever get hold of information or even a glimpse of the a prototype of the thing. wink.gif and when i say the "mobile industry", i mean people and companies who may have been contracted by google already to realize this gphone for future release. biggrin.gif

of course there will always be speculations on its existence, but it heightens the anticipation, don't you think? just like with apple, who had their hardcore fans as a ready market for their iphone, so will it be for google who will have their fair share of the mobile market once this gphone comes around. wink.gif and don't discount nokia as of yet -- there is also a nokia iphone-killer in the works.

as long as they have great features i can use, works without much hassle, extendable (with 3rd-party applications), and does not tie me up to one network ("open-line" as we usually call it, which can utilize a SIM from ALL networks) -- then it's good for me. smile.gif i've still to see an iphone in the market for us in my country, but nokia usually uses the philippines to test-market their newer brands of cellphones (so they say, since we get ahold of the NEWEST nokia models even before the U.S. market even uses them wink.gif). hopefully google will not ignore our part of the world also, otherwise i'll be having a nokia "iphone" more sooner than i can have the apple or google brand. tongue.gif but yes, i'll prefer the gphone (and yes, i'm a hardcore google fan). heheheü

Unless you hear the word from them directly, don't expect it. They have so many things going for them that it is just impossible for them to complete everything. The project will be announced, or will be go to the trash like most others. This phone however intrigues me. It seems very cool, futuristic yet, it stays in the realm of a regular phone. This phone looks like its inspired from the Samsung u740

Take a look, very similar indeed. Using a dual hinge. Its basically a combination of the u740, and an Iphone. Hopefully, they will improve on the u740's small keys and cramped area.

This is cool I just read by one member that it is almost one year out and it is very interesting I was not aware of that thing. And it looks good though there are some similar devices on the market currently and if it is already a year since tehy firstly declared that they will produce google phone then it is even longer in production and it looks really cool. I will probably buy it. The biggest problem they might have is competition which is quite strong at this time in that market. However if they would be able to prpoduce it and sell it lower that is in the lower price range then tehy might gain many new customers.

I'd like to point out that it would be cool if they would show out also some of advanced options it would have. Because if you know google they always have several aces in sleve to show out which might push it onwards, eventhough I am not clear what actually google is doing about this because if they are designing software or making just desin for the phone.

As I am ceartain that they will not produce it and the guy who started this topic or discussion did show that some other companies are interested in producing it. Current information are pretty scarce and might need some mroe time before we all know whther it is worth it or not.

I'd like topoint out that this is really new market for google and they might even fail however till today most of therir programs and softwares and almost everything they did was cool and though over move and not jsut shooting in darkness. So I cannot wait to see final result.
