I am not saying to forget your consumer rights but still be nice to the person you talk to and I am sure you'll be one of the happy customers after talking to the support nothin' against indians, but screw that being nice crap when your on the phone with someone after you paid for a service and you can't even understand the guy or girl. granted, i feel sorry for these tech support people. they have low paying jobs and have to deal with people who can't understand them but they can QUIT if they don't like it and if i feel like cursing one of them out because i expect someone who speaks fluent english on the other end because i bought my computer in AMERICA and expect the same support, then i WILL. hahaha "nice". actually, i never cursed them but got very frustrated and upset. and why shouldn't i be, mayank? people have a broken computer they want fixed and are let down and frustrated when they can't understand the person on the other end that is supposed to help them. we paid hard earned cash for a computer while some people may have paid for their 3 types of extended warranty that dell offers. i can't sit their and amuse myself with an accent i can't understand no matter how friendly the person is. i have a problem and i want it solved. |

Hi Mike, On my Dell 4600 , if I want to change the Bios settings I hit the F8 button numerous times str8 after reboot. It should lead you to the Bios settings page I shoul've mentioned this before, but pressing F8 by me will just get me to the windows XP boot menu. Doing that wouldn't accomplish that much. But one of the strange things (I probably did say this somewhere) is that the F1 key is marked Setup, and it doesn't do anything. On my dad's old dell laptop, the F1 key, marked similarly, opened the BIOS Setup, but on my machine it don't. They must have recylced keys or something to save money (another slightly annoying thing with Dell). You know, they say all this stuff about Dell having #1 support and all, but that's only once you pay for it. and for some of us, we don't want, or can't, pay for it. We can do things without their help. And we will do those things without their help. (Sounds like I'm starting a protest ehh?) This post has been edited by michaelper22: Jun 14 2006, 04:36 PM |

You know, they say all this stuff about Dell having #1 support and all, but that's only once you pay for it. and for some of us, we don't want, or can't, pay for it. We can do things without their help. And we will do those things without their help. (Sounds like I'm starting a protest ehh?) dell doesn't offer crap for support. if it's on the phone support, it's contracted out to another country. if it's in home, they contract out to another company. i had problems with BOTH of their support areas. it shouldn't be like that. i know computers and i need tech support sometimes. i feel sorry for those who don't know computers or the right questions to ask and feel sorry for those that listen to garbage advice from tech support that even THEY don't know what they're doing. I remember when i bought a couple of my ibm compatable computers at a local, privately owned computer sales and support store. just little stores. nothing to brag about. BUT! when there was a problem, you just had to take your computer to the store for a day and the next day it would be fixed. quick and easy. these bigger companies SUCK for support. i will only give dell and compaq credit for offering good high quality computers and nothing more. if there is any problem with the computer after you bought them though, you're screwed. i suggest people just going to their local small computer shop to have them custom make one for you, with a good gaurantee(at least a year for parts and service) these places will be glad to help you in your time of need and be efficient in doing so. why? because they are small and they want your repeat business. |

can't realy speak for their tech support but otherwise their support in general is great, we had a faulty GFX card and the very next day the sent someone over, replaced it and it didn't soct a cent. we have never needed their tech support so they must be doing something right....
i support dell all the way, i've never had a problem, sorry to all those who have. |

Ahh I cant stand Dell tech support. Not to be racist or anything, but honestly, I have a very difficult time understand many of their technical support people. Some have very heavy accents and are difficult to understand. The tech service knows their stuff, but sometimes it takes a little while to understand.
I really wont buy another Dell computer, I have one of their big widescreen monitors (24"), but as far as computers? I dont think so, they use such lower grade products and charge much more than personal construction and design. |

My friend had trouble with his laptop, it was really slow at starting up and wouldn't connect to the internet either. From what I heard he had them connect to his laptop and they took it from there. Turns out he was missing a file and they found the problem and fixed it for him without having to do anything. So it was really 10 star service from Dell here. Maybe you just had a bad associate.

Dell support just plain sucks, just like their computers. My friend has a Dell Dimension 4000 and it got the blue screen of death, twice. I fixed it on my own once because Dell would like to charge him $200 for a Windows disk, so I used a Compaq disk and led to Microsoft about the activation key (I'm great with that kind of stuff.) Well it happened again and I'm left with starting the piece of crap up in Safe Mode, and once again no help from Dell. If you're a firm believer that Dell is just about the greatest computer brand out there, don't believe the commercials you see. They spend billions on ads to screw you over.
