That is a very nice idea.
But that suggestion would not fit here in The Philippines, where people are more on text messaging than calling using their mobile phones. Which is actually worse! It is better to call with your mobile phone using the speaker option, a lot of people here has been driving while texting which is very, very dangerous. at least at making calls you can still pay attention so the road while driving, while when text messaging you are focused to your mobile phone's screen. Fortunately, most roads are traffic. |

OMG I hate people who use their phones while driving, in the fast lane, going too slow for it, and then change lanes when I do to pass them. Just irritates the living snot out of me. Except I do use my phone while driving, but that is only because I do not cause traffic, or accidents.

Yes, driving with a mobile is extremely dangerous, especially since you mind is not on the road, not to mention the lack of one arm, if you absolutely have to talk while driving, use one of those hands free sets, or better yet, not at all

Yes, there might be problems with the privacy, but overall I think your idea is great. But, IMO, i think the government is more interested in making money than wasting it to catch people who are using cell phones out on the road.

i think banning mobile phones in the car is absolutely ridiculous. mobile phones isn't the problem. the problem is stupid drivers. how hard is it to drive and talk on the phone at the same time?
Besides, it has already been proven that it is not talking on the cell phone that causes the accident... it is the loss in concentration while talking on the phone that causes accidents. Now, if we ban mobile phones while driving but allow hands free phones, the problem is not solved! So how is this law going to help? Absolutely stupid law. If you are going to ban mobile phones, you have to ban everything that can cause a loss in concentration. No more coffee in the car, no more music, no radio... In fact, you aren't allowed to have passengers... what would the difference be if you are talking to a passanger compared to talking to that same passanger on the phone? While I'm at it, we should also ban small children because they cause major distractions in the car. So, how is the cell phone any worse? Why suddenly everyone is so worried about the cell phone? |

It doesn't matter if you're driving while connected hands free or not. Both distract you and would let your mind wander off... I remember seeing an episode on Mythbusters about this issue... They drove in a driving course while sober, connected, and drunk (though it was kinda mild, because they had to stay under the legal limit). They failed both tests (drunk and connected) but they did worse when connected.
Anyway, to the topic... People have this need to talk on the phone, and the urge usually comes up when driving (or if someone calls). Your idea is pretty neat, but I'm guessing a lot of people will hate it. It'll definitely annoy will annoy the average driver. Of course, people usually think highly of themselves and assume that convenience is better than safety... |

it is illegal even in singapore.it causes drivers to lose concentration, especially when the call is about something urgent,or an argument through the phone.

psychological studies show that its the act of talkign on the phone that causes the most problems. hands-free phones are only slightly safer than regular cell phones. the difference being that you have 2 hands on the wheel. but you experiance the same level of concetration drop as a regular phone.
