Our school is okay. We can view Google, Yahoo, and all of their image searching tools. Basically, the only things blocked are some game sites, all e-mail providers, and registration pages for sites. I've never had a problem with this except for the fact that I've wanted to register for stuff at school and haven't been able to. Our computers aren't really heavily monitored.

One time our blocking system involved logging into a proxy system, however teh admins (assuming we were too stupid to figure this out) only set up the proxy in IE (netscape was installed at the time) and didn't protect the setting in IE so it could easly be changed! I told our local admin a few days before summer, and the next year we had a new system, and this year we have yet another system!

I have learnt, as long as a website doesn't set any cookies most websites are fine.
Lol, you can still look at porn and websites with inapropraite words in them strangely, well as long as the word porn or similar words arn't in that website. This post has been edited by Blue Lightning: May 11 2006, 08:15 AM |

My school blocks anything remotely associated with games, proxies, myspace, and any innappropriate sites that have indecent exposure... hint hint porn sites.
Then on google image you get pornographic searches for like iono something like provocative. lol. i don't know i forgot the word i searched for. I had to scroll down real quick. lol. btw i was working on a project. not wanting to see it. anyways. Proxies won't work at my school. They block any proxy site that i put in and the searching of it is forbidding too. Something about Webcrawler block this stuff blah blah blah. Someone said something about ping'ing addresses but i don't know what that is. |

I have a huge problem at my school, too. They've blocked sites for stupid reasons. Here's just a few sites:
Google Image Search (the rest of google works fine) Wikipedia (I had no idea HOW STUPID the people at my school were, until I found out this was blocked) Sites that contain the word "chat" in the URL (I understand this one perfectly) Sites that contain either "proxy bypass" or "proxybypass" in their URL (I also understand this one) There's much more than that. I can't access Slashdot, Sourceforge, and many other places. It gets on my nerves. However, I do use some proxy byass sites (like stupid censorship). No matter what my school does, someone will more than likely find a way around it. It does make me really mad about some of those sites (like I use Google Image Search for school projects). Anyway, at least I know that my school isn't the only one blocking sites that are actually good. |

They might be blocking wikipedia to keep students from acessing information that may not be correct. And now that you mentioned it, my school (once upon a time) would block any url containing teen, I found this amusing, so I made a eries of sites where all the pages were in a folder called teen.

As far as my school blocking images.google.com, it doesn't block images.google.ca or any other domain names. Try it out on your guys' things too.

yeah your not the only one kid..our school blocks off so many sites on the internet...it sucks so much weve sometimes found ways to get to certain sites but once you get it and try they block that off also...even if you dont tell anyone and just do it yourself they also manage to find out and block it...it gets harder to find things to do on the internet here...its really a pain in the neck...it blocks off alot of good information that couldve been used for my work...i just think they OD with it way too much
