anybody heard of spydoctor and registry mechanic?? these are good ones i use personally. now spydoctor always detects download accelerator as spyware so don't panic and dont remove it because the free dap comes with ads which is obviosuly detected as spyware, but it is safe.. cheers harshal shah I've search for Spyware-Doctor and goggle brought me to this site. http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/ According to this site, Spyware-Doctor is not a free software. However looking at its tons of awards, I believe its really a good software. Too bad it isn't free to add on to this list. Similarly, Registry Mechanic appeared to be developed from the same company as Spyware-Doctor. Unfortunately, it is not a free software as well. Thanks for that introduction of those tools. |

I'm not sure if it fits here, but CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) is a great little tool which sits in your Recycle Bin and clears up the cache, temporary files etc. It also allows you to sift through all the programs that run on startup (and I've managed to kill spyware that was slowing my startup through it).

Thanks to those who has contributed in this list.
I've actually found more free tools to add on. One of my favorite application is CompuSec, which provides whatever means of protection that is called security, for free. It's rather professional and could be a paid software for probably a thousand bucks or more. But they are distributing free. It includes encryption to single file, multiple files, and even the entire harddisk. Besides data on your harddisk gets encrypted, even your voice calls on the internet also gets encrypted. So Skype users are now safe at mind while chatting with their faraway friends or family members. My favorate feature is the pre-boot security clearance. It's whereby you will need to key in your password before Windows starts to boot. Yes, it's all done before you even see the Windows XP loading logo. That so called, security clearance, ask for your password before even anything starts to load. How secure..! I lovin' it. This will hopefully encourage more people to contribute in the list so all of us will benefit from it. Sygate Personal Firewall is good but unfortunately, it's gone to Symantec. QUOTE Important Notice: Effective November 30th, 2005 all Sygate consumer firewall products will be discontinued. For technical assistance with these products, please email SMBSupport@Symantec.com. In addition, the consumer firewall support forum will be available for 60 days per our standard support policy. Note: this end of life only applies to the consumer firewall products and does not affect Sygate's Enterprise firewall and endpoint compliance products, which are still be updated and supported. Thank you and we look forward to assisting you with the wonderful line of Symantec products. Information : http://www.sygate.com/products/sygate-pers...irewall-pro.htm |

For Privacy software, how about Secretmaker. I've used it before and it's pretty efficient at what it does. It basically works like CCleaner, but it blocks other things, and can even get rid of flash adverts

Thanks for the list, you guys~ I've been planning on setting up my home server to host the files in my website, and I couldn't go to war without any sufficient protection! |
