I just bought the Half-Life Platinum Edition the other day that comes with 5 games (including CS). Well, I'm on dial-up, so after I spend an entire day updating Half-Life and Counter-Strike, I try to play CS online. It brings up the server list, and when I join, it starts to join. Usually when it gets to the "Precaching resources..." or something like that, it stops responding. I mean, maybe it's just being slow. I could wait 30 minutes to see what happens, but I don't have that kind of patience. I know it's not my computer, because it's hardly a week old. Any suggestions? Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated (cuz I really wanna play this game). |

I would say it's your connection. Half Life is a fast paced game that requires a good connection. I had the same trouble with WOW, but it was on a wireless connection.

Installing the steam does not necessory mean that counter strike has finished installed. Maybe you can see that counter strike is activated. But actually it still take a long time to download some more files the first time. I have noticed that you are using dial-up, and take 1 day to download steam. So you may still need take half a day to download more. From my experience with wideband, it take about 1 hour to download the steam. And it take me around 15 more minutes in the pre-cache status the first time. Just try longer and have fun. But I think dial-up is not good to play CS. The delay is too much. |

Yeah, I know, but I've been really wanting to play this game, and all we can get in this part of town is dial-up, sadly.

Hmmm...you can try it by connecting to your friends computer via a lan cable, you can create an offline community, just use a hub to connect between 2 or more computers in a small area.

Not neccessarily. That was what I'm trying to say. You can have more than 2 people playing as long as you own a connector or hub that allows more people to connect together. You can buy it in a store. |

It is true that source is a fast pace game and does need a fast connection. But maybe you should start thinking of your next computer based purchase to be maybe DSL or Cable internet provider. Again, HL2 does need a fast connection for online play, but to let you know, the bots in Source are alot more inteligent.

ok i think your talking about lan because on lan you can have multiple connections but i dont think you can do that with the phone line... i meant a dial up modem so it would be like calling someones house phone but instead of talking you would be playing a game through it, cause i saw my friend do with another. |
