Great question and great answers too. I think starting and running a business successfully is about finding a market for a need and satisfying that need. However, there are lots of potential markets out there and I think you have to find one that you have a passion for. I suggest you take note of the things you really enjoy doing and then find needs related to those things. That way you can not only be able to make a business out of your hobbies, but you will have a great time doing it too biggrin.gif

like blogmaster pointed out, if you have a hobby and you make it into a business you will enjoy the experience. Not only that, but starting a business will require knowledge, time, research, money... alot of stress and responsibilities. If you already know alot about the business your going in because it is your hobby, then you eliminate some of the stress.

If you go into the computer retail business without much knowledge bout computers, you are not going to be able to give good deals, support the customers and run a good business. Bu if you are into, lets say for example, remote control planes, you can open a business related to that with your knowledge because you will know some background information and you are a customer aswell - not just a provider.

On my experience the first base to start business or enter to the business world is that. you need to prepare yourself first by reading some encouraging and inspiring reading material like books, magazines, etc.. . Then after that or while reading of it, you have to feel and sense your passion. Meaning, you have to know your business alinement, your business passion or simply the things you love to do most. After that, if you are sure of it. Then, start in small.... then, medium, then big...

Hope this will help! smile.gif

Check out e-dreams the movie about the kids that started Kozmo. This is really inspiring stuff all about taking nothing but a good business plan and some vision and creating interest among venture capitalists. Their idea was so appealing that Starbucks was convinced to become a partner. Until that moment Starbucks had never partnered with anyone so this was real big news. I won't ruin the ending in case you want to watch it.

like rvalkass said do a market survey is what you on whats the best possible options are for you. PS: you've got to see on whats the best thing that is for you. for example you get two option. 1 that has high profitability and other is of your interest. I'd would say that you go for option that you can develop your interest in. that would really be a major driving force for you.

I dunno, there are so many things to do. I know some people who import imitation sunglasses from china and sell them here in the US for a big time markup. They're sold as imitation, not the real thing, but people are still willing to pay for a $20 pair of sunglasses that looks the same as a $200 pair... there's good money in importing. rvalkass and PSTUBb also had really great advice, PSTUBb, I have read both those books. Very good =)

biggrin.gif You said it. But I think selling imitation goods is ilegal even in China here due to property right. However, people still do that worldwide. Some not only are imitation of design and style but also imitation of famous trademark. In Beijing, there was a shopping street called "Silk Street", whose history ascends to 20 years ago. During 1995 - 2001, imitation clothes were innundante in Silk Street. In 2005, local Government built up a new "Silk Street" Shopping Mall for its greater growth. In addition to selling fashion apparels and accessories such as hats, handbags, shoes, belts, sportswear, silk fabrics like their predecessor, the new Silk Street introduced traditional Chinese handicrafts, antiques, calligraphy, carpets, table cloths, bed coverings, paintings, hand-knit dresses, toys, electronic gadgets, trinkets, and fine jewelry etc. Imitation is forbidden legally, but sometimes still can be found under the counter.

Anyways, doing business with China is a good idea because you can get whatever you want with good quality and competitive price. I would like to give a hand if anybody has interes in doing so.

Well it depends what you want. Because starting business is relatively easy because to register new buisness as enterpreneur you can do it everything over the internet. If you would like to organize your company on some higher level then you might need also some money in the first place which will be involved in the buisness. And also think about financing to some funds and creative finanical helps if and in the case you have really good idea. Good luck with your buisness.

I agree smile.gif Doing a market survey helps but a more important factor is that you must be able to consider the capital needed and the risk to be taken. As well as, you need an extremely determined mindset to embark on your journey to be a successful entrepreneur (I remember somewhere i replied in a thread where i gave links to people interested in being entrepreneur - check that up, it'll be worthwhile the effort)

Note: I guess i should start a business and be successful smile.gif then come back here and tell you guys my story as well as put up a tutorial.

If you are starting a business then you should probably work on something that you are educated for. You can't choose from being a dentist to being a plumber. Your business should be based on your education.
