This is what it shows when I do a whois check on my site (zoebelkin.co.cc) I had entered ns.computinghost.com & ns2.computinghost.com as the nemeservers in my registrars DNS Setting Panel. But as you can see the nameservers are: NameServer: NS1.CALPOP.COM NameServer: NS2.CALPOP.COM So my question is why are they changed and why the nameservers entered by me is not being shown? A detailed reply is very much appreciated. |

And here is what i get when I use a Name Server tool:
QUOTE Domain Name: CO.CC Registrant [1280642]: KAMSUNGCOMMUNICATION JANGHANG-DONG, ILSAN-GU GOYANG GYEONGGI-DO 410380 KR Administrative Contact [1280643]: Jong Sung Kim CO.CC@domainservice.com KAMSUNGCOMMUNICATION JANGHANG-DONG, ILSAN-GU GOYANG GYEONGGI-DO 410380 KR Phone: +1.9549848445 Fax: +1.9549699155 Billing Contact [738701]: Moniker Privacy Services CO.CC@domainservice.com Moniker Privacy Services 20 SW 27th Ave. Suite 201 Pompano Beach FL 33069 US Phone: +1.9549848445 Fax: +1.9549699155 Technical Contact [738701]: Moniker Privacy Services CO.CC@domainservice.com Moniker Privacy Services 20 SW 27th Ave. Suite 201 Pompano Beach FL 33069 US Phone: +1.9549848445 Fax: +1.9549699155 Domain servers in listed order: NS1.CO.CC 222.122.45.50 NS2.CO.CC 58.121.85.222 Record created on: 1997-10-13 00:00:00.0 Database last updated on: 2008-03-05 02:29:53.61 Domain Expires on: 2013-03-26 00:00:00.0 Registry Status: CLIENT-XFER-PROHIBITED Registry Status: CLIENT-UPDATE-PROHIBITED Registry Status: CLIENT-DELETE-PROHIBITED It begs the question: Is your 'domain' a purchased Domain or a sub-domain of a re-direct service? If is a re-direct then there is not much chance that you will be able to adjust things to your liking. If that is the case, consider purchasing a Domain from Xistodomains.com, a trap17 sister company. |

I am using free domain from co.cc.
They give me priviledged to change the nameserver. They also offer modifying of A,MX & CNAME Records. It's not a redirect. I later ran the whois tool on trap17 site and also found their nameserver to be the same as that of my site mentioned in the first post. I'm totally confused. By the way could you tell me which name server lookup tool are you using.??? Thanx for viewing my post. |

DomainTools dot com is a good source to probe into your domain.
Anyway, co.cc works similar to early days of uni.cc or currently used DynDNS system--nameservers are mere redirect. This is how I'm guessing it works: 1. you set the nameserver under your domain's control 2. co.cc binds or adds this new nameserver to their host 3. a parent alias takes the place on behalf of the actual nameserver (alias nameserver similar to DynDNS) 4. your domain points to the hosting server after above reroute Establishing alias nameserver is a common practice for many "free domain name" providers because to provide it free, they'll need to save every bit of money they can. And having your own nameserver service takes muchas moolas. Another reason for alias nameserver is the free domain provider has the complete control over your redirection--this is in case if your domain is discontinued or becomes very popular, co.cc can hold your domain as a hostage and they can point to wherever they'd like, i.e. park page. |
