Having seen that topics related to religion get so much attention, i thought that it would not be a bad idea to start one to increase my popularity!!!! biggrin.gif

On a serious note, i have never been able to understand that why we are becoming more and more obssessed with religion as we are evolving. Our ancestors, who were not enlightened by modern science, believed in things like rain god , sun god and stuff like that. Thats understandable, since they have very little knowledge of the things around them and how they work.

But what about today's people. I m also a follower of religion and i don't discard religion as such. But what i feel strange about is that in todays world when we r trying to show ourselves as rational biengs on one side , we are fighting with each other on the other side.

In fact people using next generation technology like us often sprang up questions like "Is Christianity the best religion?". and the more important point is that the person who started this is not exception. most of us r so obssessed that we make that topic an instant hit which i think is a total waste of time.

i follow a religion just because since almost 99.9% of human beings follow one so i dont want to be like standing out of the crowd. but i m not obssessed. i don't disregard or point fingers on other people's religion and don't mind much if someone says something about my religion because what i feel is that if there is god then he will take care of that person in whatever way he feels right. And if there is no god then what is the point in fighting.

thats why i oppose any topic like the one above.

MY APPEAL TO ALL IS THAT STOP THAT OBSSESSION WITH RELIGION INSTEAD BE OBSSESSED WITH THE WELL BIENG OF MANKIND

I m not kind of trying to preach something but this is what i feel............

Being in a religion isn't a bad thing, unless you're in one that commits/promotes evil. Many religious people around the world go around helping those in need. Many others, that aren't in a religion, don't. So, being obsessed with religion is like being obsessed for the well being of mankind. Plus, if you can't do it, God can.

I don't think that we are becoming "more and more obsessed with religion as we are evolving". Au contraire, I believe that we're deviating more and more away from religion as we understand how life 'works'.

As we evolve, our understanding of the intracacies of life increases. Just take a look at how far science has come along. Heck, the church was once more powerful than the king. Is that the case today?

No doubt, religion is such a deep-rooted concept that will never fade away. There are bound to be believers and followers... but to the extent where "us evolving = an increased obsession"? I don't think so.

That's just my humble opinion, of course.

What the hell are you talking about? Athiests and agnostic do exist by the way. And i know don' go out of the way to stand out. I mean say tht too Martin Luther King Jr. and Ghandi who stood out for freedom and not to judge people on religion. People like you are the ones who make the world the same everyday.

By the way i'm not religious along with about 50% of my friends.

Most of my friends are not religious. Some of my ancestors were atheists. I disagree wholeheartedly with the idea that "we are becoming more and more obsessed with religion as we are evolving." I mean, the effing crusades, dude! There were plenty of wars fought over religion and stuff, and now we hardly even care about it.

I follow a religion because it makes me feel good about life and other things. I enjoy taking part in my religion, and I do not do it to fit in with others.

Though your idea of being more concerned with mankind rather than with religion is an interesting one. My rabbi, who was on the something-or-other show (I forgot the name... it's the guy with the really white hair on CNN or something that's hella old and kind of bald; he wears suspenders) after Katrina and responded to the question "Where was God when Katrina hit New Orleans?" with the question "Where was mankind when Katrina hit New Orleans?" It's an interesting idea. Humankind is making all these ecologically insane decisions, and thus the environment (or God) is responding with these natural disasters. It's the humans fault for allowing all this to happen, mostly blamed upon Global Warming (As heat rises, winds increase, storms increase), and thus we should be more dependant upon ourselves than God who gave us the change to not make it happen.

But i don't think we should say that talking about religion is not an OK thing to do here. It's a somewhat scientific board right here, and since religion is almost the opposite of science, we have to talk about it. Kind of like talking about 0 when talking about infinity... yeah.

And your asking us to not talk about religion seems a lot like preaching to me.

I find it funny when people say stuff like this. For example when someone says "You can't say something like that about God! He'll have your ear (Not always ear, btw wink.gif ) off!" or "God wouldn't agree with us!", etc

Well...If God doesn't like what we're doing, and he's as powerful as you say he is, why doesn't he stop us?
