Mambo's Developer Team Breaks with Miro, Leaves Project
QUOTE The developer team for Mambo, a leading content management system, has left the project over a dispute with Miro, the copyright owner. Seems Miro setup the Mambo Foundation in a much different way than the developers expected. http://www.newsforge.com/newsvac/05/08/18/1413218.shtml i suppose this would be interesting for members using mambo cms, or are planning to use it. this info should get out to the public. "what happens to MAMBO now?" you may ask. well, the developers (CORE developers, mind you!) advises everyone that the future of the cms is secured, and future releases can be expected. Read the Mambo Open Source Development Team's Letter to the community here: http://www.opensourcematters.org/ for now, i believe it is best to bookmark that site to have direct details with regards to the NEW (ex-?)mambo cms from the CORE developers themselves. how do you think will this affect you, if you are a mambo cms user? |

If they can eventually settle with the copyright owner there shouldnt be much effect within the mambo community, the developers themselves are still collaborated so basically nothing special happened, but still for the mambo users its something to think about.
With the core developers being uneasy with copyright issues so soon (they dont exist for that long), it must have slipped their mind to quit the mambo project and start awhole new one, wich could eventually have the same problems if they dont work it out the right way. Lawsuits could break the complete project, since the software is open source, the developers have to pay an expensive copyright lawsuit from their own pockets, thát could also break them. Im glad the developers gave their reactions and future sights as soon as they could, to ease the mambo community, that proves true dedication, wich would falsify the statements in the lines ive written just now |

i was thinking in the same line of thought, that of the core developers coming out with a new cms based on mambo, but with a new flavor and a different name altogether. it's a loss for the mambo foundation for its team of core developers to leave them at this stage that it has just been formally established. you can just imagine if you lose all your hands, feet, eyes, mouth... sort of.
here is a discussion on the new name for the CMS (by the CORE developers): http://forum.opensourcematters.org/index.php/topic,89.0.html pitch in your CMS name ideas on that page. |
