Hi!
I've a hint for those of you, who often register in several forums and therefore get tons of spam. I've found a website which offers a "trash-mal-adress". You can register on any site with "something@trash-mail.com" (you can choose for "something" whatever you want), than you go to Trash-Mail and enter what you have chose for "something". Now you get the mails for this adress. You can for example confirm the registration for a forum, delete the registration mail and youre done. Youre registered and you won't receive any spam on your regular mail adresses. I've used this service often and I'm very satisfied with it. The page is in german, but I don't think this will cause problems because you only have to enter your choice in the form on the main page. I hope this helps you a bit to get the spam under control! Greetings |

Yes these kinds of sites are really rather useful. I used it once when I signed up for a rewards site where you had to sign up for surveys and the email ended up recieving hundreds of messages a day. I used mailinator.com which is basically the same thing. Some sites though are starting not to accept those as valid email addresses though but I'm sure the more they get rid of the more there will be made.

I don't get that problem because thankfully the forums I have visited respect my privacy and do not send me unecessary advertisements and only when there are forum announcements do I receive a mail from them. Thanks for the good will but I won't be needing it unless I sign up for those rewards site which is unlikely to happen

I know a better technique for preventing spam, or just if you do not want to give your personal email adress.
The trick is simple, you need 2 gmail accounts, one for spam and stuff like that, and the other for your your friends/family/work. After youy create one account at gmail, which you need an invitation from someone who already has an active gmail account, send an gmail invitation to yourself. Then, just click in the invitation email and create the other gmail account, which you will use for spam and other stuff less important and more risky to you. After you create your second gmail, go to "settings", then click in "Forwarding and Pop" and click in "forward a copy of incoming mail to" and add your first gmail account, and then click in the below link "creating a filter", where you will configure which copy of incoming mail you do want to receive on your first gmail account, with filters. Filters are sort of keywords and key phrases you must configure, in order to gmail see if a certain mail is or not the kind of incoming mail you want a copy of to your first gmail account. Hope you understand, it is pretty easy to configure. This post has been edited by Lyon2: Oct 13 2006, 09:41 AM |

why not just make another hotmail or something like that? but i guess this service could be usefull. hotmail doesn't even block half the spam that comes through! stupid filters. you have to be carefull of wehere you register to, some places would probally like try to hack you or send you viruses or something weird like that.....

I'm sorry to say, but isn't trash-mail.com an obvious host for a Junk Mail e-mail adress? I wouldn't accept people who signed up with these email adresses on my websites...

I've signed up at a lot of forums and have not received a spec of spam yet. It all depends on how trustworthy the site that you are signing up with really is.
