Start off by looking at what services or products your local area lacks. What items do you have to travel a long distance to buy? What services are a long way from your home. Look at what you want in the local area, and its likely that a lot of other people want the same thing. If you can't see anything lacking in your local area, would you be prepared to set your business up in an area that needs it, and travel a longer distance to it each day?

Also, choose something you have a lot of knowledge in, and a passion for. It really shows if someone cares about what they are selling or doing. Your local Citizens' Advice Bureau should be able to provide all the legal details required to get your business off the ground, and good luck for the future biggrin.gif

Its an excellent question. I will probably proceed with writing a few short articles on small businesses, getting started and the like. In the meantime, my suggestion is pop into your local bookstore and find the business section! There are tons of good books out there. Some that I recommend are Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kyosaki, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (This is an old book but it's information is timeless and the advice is as solid as you will probably ever find. In fact, anything by Napoleon Hill imo is solid gold.) and The E-Myth by Micheal E. Gerber. Just flip through the books you find and try to avoid the get rich quick scheme books. They almost never work.

The more knowledge you can collect, the more chance you will have of being successful. Just remember to take everything with a grain of salt as they say, cause books aren't always correct about everything.

Good luck in all your projects!
Sean

I just started a small business providing home technical support for Mac and Windows users in my area. Why? Because they are all tired of the price gouging of Best Buy and Circuit City. I can provide prices far cheaper, and still turn a large profit. The hardest part was finding an investor to start up the business, which was my high school. Now, my friend and I have almost paid off that investment and are on our way to full business ownership.

Every think is related to business and sad thing is you did not get a way. If you think about the man who deliver newspaper he is doing a business. Think about some of your friend arrange e party and you fixed a ticket. Or may be one of your friends or relative have a business or what ever and he need some goods and you know where it found tell him you want to supply the goods. Or what ever. Try to figure out what is easiest and convenient for you.

I dunno, there are so many things to do. I know some people who import imitation sunglasses from china and sell them here in the US for a big time markup. They're sold as imitation, not the real thing, but people are still willing to pay for a $20 pair of sunglasses that looks the same as a $200 pair... there's good money in importing. rvalkass and PSTUBb also had really great advice, PSTUBb, I have read both those books. Very good =)
