OK i'm not talking about having a glass of wine a dinner. I'm also not talking about people who have drinking problems. I'm talking about why do people decide to get drunk for fun? Don't call me a prude cause i have drank before and even gotten into trouble at school for it. I did all of those because it was "cool" I have never understood why people just decide to get drunk though.
One of my friends that comes over and is also one of the the main person in the O&J Productions crew (http://ojproductions.net my site) Always goes," we should get wasted tonight". I usually say why don't we make another video/movie. My friend who used to be a chain smoker quit after he started playing music because he said he was just bored before. Now we jam and he has gotten really good because everytime he is bored he plays the guitar instead of smoking. Maybe its just me, but i'm not into getting drunk and feeling like poop (can't say the "S" word) in the morning when i could be writing music for my band, working on my site, and/or writing and filming movies. |

Like Albus said there isn't a need to drink the crap down as fast as you can by like drinking 5 within a short period of time. I am sure of course we will all have our days of getting drunk for fun or whatever just don't get addicted to it. Smoking I hope I never will do. My brother did and it doesn't do you good. I just read it can extend your life by 20 years or whatever if you don't smoke.

A new study shows that it's bad for people under 50 (55, maybe?) years old to drink. For those above that age, it's good for heart reasons, but depends on the gender. But, there's no real reason why anyone under that age to be drinking for their benefit. It actually makes things worse under that age. There are a ton more reasons why not to drink than there are why to drink.

In response to the question: "Why People Get Drunk"...
In social settings, alcohol makes the person feel more relaxed. It gives the feeling of a stimulant (puts people in this europhoric state) when it really is in fact a depressant. Regardless, alcohol is a drug and like all drugs, can be addictive. I have nothing against drinking. Heck, I drink a few every now and then myself. What I strongly oppose is irresponsible drinking and I believe that this is the main reason why people get drunk. For a lot of people, having a drink or two at a party can really make conversing easier. It makes them more relaxed and less tense. But it is also during these 'social events' where people are most proned to getting drunk. Just a few quick examples: -the person has already had a few too many drinks. they lose count of how many they have consumed. they keep drinking. -dares from friends to have another -birthday and other parties -holidays and festivities From personal experience, drinking plays a huge part in the university student's life. Most of the time students get drunk are usually times when they are among friends (or at least with somebody else). The whole, "It's Thursday! Let's get sloshed!" kind of vibe results from students wanting to take a break from their studies, to go out and have a good time. This in my opinion, is an absolutely horrible and irresponsible mentality. By all means, have fun! But fun doesn't need to come with a hangover the next morning. For people who drink just for the sake of getting drunk, there must be something wrong with their lives e.g. lack of motivation, no self-esteem, loss of personal integrity, depression... A lot of people think that drinking will take the pain away but in truth, it only adds more salt to the wound. |

Drinking is like a habit people adopt over a period of time - or it could be smoking, or swearing on a regular basis. I think it depends a lot on the sort of groups you mix/socialise with. Brits on the whole are pretty self contained, but if you watch a group of Brits drinking heavily together in a pub you will usually see them become more and more extrovert. That is because their senses are getting blurred and they are experiencing a social rush, a sort of false sense of camaraderie that is induced by being pissed. Mostly you will see other Brits who are not so drunk exchanging disapproving glances. This rush experience is quite a pleasant feeling which will make those taking part want to do it again and again.
It might be quite possible for someone who enjoys one night a week getting drunk with friends in a tight knit social group to be asking "what is the reason some people spend their spare time writing music for a band, working on a website, etc., when they could be out on the town with their pals, and having a good time?" Just my take on the subject. |

QUOTE ... or swearing on a regular basis. lol i swear a lot, but i can stop it when i need to its not adictive for me anyway. In response to others i se that most of yu agree with me that it is being just dumb to want to just go get drunk for no reason. No party or anything, but just to get drunk. |

I haven't gotten drunk yet. I may end up getting drunk in the future, but I may not. As for why it happens, I can guess mostly because of peer pressure, and once the peer pressure gets someone to start the "fun" or comfort one gets while being drunk makes them want to continue.
