I think Linux sweeping the world was a bit of a premature prediction (what everyone in relatively intellectual circles was saying in the late 90's and very early 2000's).
Microsoft with a true oligopoly that has crushed the chances of any third party OS, like BeOS, one of the most promising OSes of the 90's IMHO. Linux and Unix really need a serious internal structural revamp (like the NT system does of course), perhaps even a change to a server based OS; I guess that would sort of be a total rewrite of all the code though This post has been edited by BuffaloHELP: Jul 14 2005, 01:07 PM |

but what makes linux so mainstream is that is hugly customizable but yeah point taken M$ makes it impossible for anyone to pop out with new os, cuz the greed of money will taken then and they will sell the product to microsoft.
