I am currently using wordpress for blogging. There are always some annoying spammers who would use some anonymous proxies for spamming. They must have been bots for even at one time I mistakenly hid the commenting box due to some errors with the php script, they still manage to spam on my site. Of course, I can turn off commenting or specify that all comments be moderated, but I would also like my blog to be as “free” as possible. I have been using blacklist, but it seems to be quite reactive instead of proactive. Do you have any other means to fight blog spammers?

You should try to change your post variables. If you have <input type="text" name="comment" /> by default in your blog script, try to change comment to something else. A spam bot knows these posts variables, and can submit a form with values from this variables after it found your site. If you change the post variable, a bot wouldn't be able to post on your blog! I am sure that you can find some info about this on the Wordpress website or support forums.

i had that problem too, which was dumb cause no one every posted on my blog. I think it's an auto thing to increase link popularity on google. It's an script which searches and posts on everything. At least that's what i've been told.

i never use blog in my site. i surprised if span can attack a content of blog site.
i thing before it just attack such email cause the know our email address on site using their crawler system. thats why i.e. google groups have a partial hidden mail on their system to avoid spam. talking aboud email, sometime my friend send email but go to bulk mail together with spam mail. a system categorize it as a spam. its very terrible. thats why i prefer and never use anti spam in my email system, then i delete it by myself mannually. |
