I've been using this for a few months now, and it's already been worth the effort to wade through the emails. Freecycle is basically a trading post set up through Yahoo Communities. People post their unwanted items to the community, which then sends an email out to all members. The first person to reply is the one who walks away with the item. Of course, it is set up by state and county for those in the US. As for others, I'm sure it has some structure, though I've not looked into it.

I was lucky enough to come across someone who had a 40 year old 12 foot * 8" * 3/4" board of mahogany setting up in their attic. Being as I am not old enough to drive, they were even kind enough to drop it off on my front porch.

For those that missed the title, the website is HERE.

Got accepted, and got my first group of emails. And I have to say YOWZA! that's alotta emails. To those who may sign up I highly recomend setting up the daily digest type email setup as opposed to getting each email separetly. I know it probably varies by region, but I got a load of emails this morning.

Just a Heads Up.

As for the service it seems cool.

Hi:

I have given away some things on Free Cycle. Stuff goes quick! I had some office furniture...big, clunky. I could not sell it; I could not even find a thrift shop to donate it to. Listed it in Free Cycle. I got a lot of calls for it. The people who got it came and took it away even.

I have never gotten anything free from Free Cycle. But it was a great way to get rid of something difficult to move.
